Lyrics
It’s August first in a parking lot
And there’s a guy with a radio
He’s sure got a lot to say
Got a lot to sell
So I’ll look the other way
And there’s a girl with a cigarette in her mouth
She’s on the phone I can tell she’s from the south
She’s walking backwards wants to be an actor
Why am I listening
It’s so much easier to focus on the things
That don’t involve me
This is the hottest summer I can ever remember
Cuz the world is on fire
And hey if we’re all dying
Then what does it matter?
We’re a natural disaster
There’s a preacher and he’s on the tv
He says the world is ending
And you can get free if you want to
Another useless breakthrough
Closer to the truth
It’s so much easier to focus on the things
That don’t involve me
This is the hottest summer I can ever remember
Cuz the world is on fire
And hey if we’re all dying
Then what does it matter?
We’re a natural disaster
And what if I don’t wanna give up yet
I haven’t seen enough of it?
And what if we just listened for a change
Instead of acting like we know it all?
Cuz we know nothing at all
Yeah we know nothing at all
This is the summer of our discontent
And baby we’ve gotta change it
This is the hottest summer I can ever remember
Cuz the world is on fire
And hey if we’re all dying
Then what does it matter?
We’re a natural disaster
This is the hottest summer I can ever remember
And hey if we’re all dying
Then what does it matter?

Keep it up! You are super-talented and a great songwriter!
Another middle-aged, childless, mentally-ill female. They won't stop until they've destroyed the entire Western world.
The right message at exactly the right time, considering that we are seeing the hottest temperatures ever recorded–in the entire world. Ginger Zee of ABC News has talked repeatedly about the dangers of climate change and what concrete steps are needed so as you said, "I hope this song and video can serve as a call to action."
Great song!
Thank you so much, Bethany, for keeping making music for us and for the world. We love you so much.
Not sure if it's the wet hair, but I'm getting wrestler's entrance vibes lol. Love the song, as always
Love you
Great song!
You've cap'd the zeitgeist! This song and you are about to explode!
I love you so much. Thank you for this
