Extreme rain in Nova Scotia causing widespread flooding

Preliminary estimates show up to 250 mm of rain fell in some areas of Nova Scotia as of 6 a.m., and in the Halifax area, it appears to be the heaviest rainfall event since 1971, a local meteorologist says. The torrential rain has caused severe flooding on several highways throughout the province and power outages affecting 40,000 customers, and prompted the evacuation of residents near the St. Croix River system.
