Nova Scotia flooding: Aerial video shows large portions of urban areas underwater

Spread The Viralist

About 150 residents have been displaced from their homes in the Halifax region as flash flooding caused by heavy rain has resulted in a significant amount of damage in the municipality.

In the rest of the province, the Nova Scotia RCMP say four people are missing – two children, a youth and an adult – after two vehicles were submerged in floodwaters in the Hants County region. In one instance, three of five people in a vehicle were able to escape, but two children are now missing.

In another incident, a man and youth are unaccounted for while two others were able to get to safety.

Aerial video from Bedford, N.S. showed neighbourhoods, businesses and parking lots among the areas underwater.

Global’s Callum Smith has more from Bedford.

  1. When you build poor quality infrastructure to begin with and then build in places where you should not this is exactly what you get. The really sad part is that they will rebuild all of this destroyed infrastructure in exactly the same way so Nova Scotians will be reliving this for decades. These people need new leadership and new infrastructure standards. Status quo has landed you right where you are. Expect more of the same for years to come.

  2. Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, will descend in Syria on the wings of two angels, his face dripping water as if he had just come out of the shower, his breath will reach the tips of his fingers, any person who enters into the space of his breath will die immediately except for Muslims, he will kill the pig and break the cross and then pray in Al-Aqsa Mosque with Muslims, Then he calls the Christians to convert to Islam, He also recommended them before (in the Gospel of Barnabas) to believe in Muhammad, the Messenger of God peace be upon him.[61:6]

And when Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One. Yet when he hath come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic.

    [61:7]
And who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie against Allah when he is summoned unto Al-Islam ? And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

    [61:8]
Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse.

    [61:9]
He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that He may make it conqueror of all religion however much idolaters may be averse.

  3. It is a sad affair. Shows where the ocean level will hit first though… This is just the beginning.
Today its rain…. tomorrow it will be the ocean.

  4. Wouldn't it be nice if this could happen. Justin Trudeau's Government donates exactly 8.8 BILLION dollars around the world EACH YEAR. The second-highest recipient of that money is Africa.
If just for ONE YEAR, the Canadian Government said " Hey folks, we are really hurting right now, so we are going to take just ONE YEAR of that money and apply it to infrastructure of our homeland.
We are going to buy huge water bomber airplanes and place them strategically all across Canada, so when we have another season of destructive wildfires, they won't be nearly as bad. They do cost 3.5 million dollars each, and then we have to put in place infrastructure to accommodate them, but we have 8.8 BILLION dollars to do it.
We are going to purchase land within our City boundaries and build proper, fireproof type shelters for every single Veteran alive, and then do the same for the general homeless.
We will build infrastructures that channel floodwaters away from flood plains, widen or deepen storm drain channels so 200 mm of rain in 8 hours has a place to go or collect.
We are going to build million dollar homes/condos around all major hospitals and allow young, new doctors and nurses to live for free if they just stay in our Country and work in our hospitals.
We will offer HUGE incentives to young people if they join the Police Force and sign a 5 year deal that states they have to stay for that period.
We will buy land, clear it and then set it up for farming for free, as long as the farmer only sells his products in Canada.
We will install solar panels on every Public Building that can accommodate them, maybe offer free solar panel setups to citizens that are so efficient that they dump excess energy back into the grid.
We will install heat pumps in every Senior's home with low income, so they don't die from heat in the coming climate change temperature rise.
I think that will probably consume every bit of the 8.8 billion dollars that we give away, and even if it doesn't make a huge difference, it can't hurt .. can it?

  5. Those manipulating the weather to speed up the climate change agenda should be arrested and prosecuted. It is known that the rain can be provoked or postponed. It’s been done for years.

  6. Since Trudeau is so convinced this is all because of climate change, the Federal Government should use carbon tax money to compensate everyone affected by this flood.

  7. dude says 40 mins from Bedford to West Hants, what is he travelling on a bicycle? On a serious note, hope everyone is found ok and thankful all my family and friends back there have checked in

  8. Global News, will you be covering why Nova Scotia was given no warning about the severity & brief time-frame of the rain event? According to the popular and easily accessible TWN weather report it was raining in central Halifax when the roads & sideways were dry. They predicted the rain was going to end around 4:00 pm. At that time I stepped out the door and the rain just started comming down as 'cats & dogs' and more. About 2 hours lated I returned home & the rain was letting up.
From the video footage you show, there is still light in the sky when central Bedford was flooded, yet the first emergency alart only came out at 10:04 pm Friday night. Seems a few hours late to me!

  9. I'm so glad that I left Nova Scotia Canada, I live in Toronto Ontario Canada ,I'm 75years old now and I live in a senior building , upper floor, on the highest part of the city , .I don't half to shovel snow,Moe lawns, or worries about , any thing ,

  10. I used to live in the Befford area. That flooding looks WAY worse than it is. That is the Sackville river, it constantly floods, usually not up and over into the main road but did lap at the edges of Sunny Side before. This is not like in the southern US where whole towns get flooded.

  11. I'm sure the fire ban is still on so we don't get any more of those wildfires in the province! We just had the wettest July in 50 years in Ontario and we're still under a fire ban. FOLLOW THE SCIENCE.

  12. Climate change results in more intense rainfall, which increases the chances of flooding. This is because warmer air can hold more moisture.
