What is an NDE?
A near-death experience (NDE) is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an NDE. They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an NDE, experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Theories used to explain near-death experiences in purely physical terms have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others.

  1. Life can be so beautiful, wonderful and also so bittersweet. I've always said that this life, human life, a crap shoot if your rich or poor, sick or healthy and so on just can't be all there is. I hope i have at least done more, given more than I've received. Thank you so much and Grace and goodness to all, Brian and Carol

  2. Awesome experience to share to us…

Awesome that u have found and continue to expand from your experience

Much love to you and yours

    Edit spelling.

  3. Thank you for sharing. It takes such courage to share your thoughts, emotions, and feelings regarding something so incredibly and deeply personal. Please keep sharing and growing. Much love.

  4. The causes of NDEs are complex and not fully known. While many medical and psychological explanations have been offered, they remain speculative and often fall short of explaining the entire phenomenon.

  5. It is beneficial you are exploring this experience, as well as the following milestones along the way. Be patient with yourself, and maybe explore spiritual aspects of your life more so as time goes by.

  6. As many here, I also experienced something about 10 years ago. I have a question and a comment.

Yes, I think you had a brain injury.

Question: I've heard that the brain doesn't stop for like 15 minutes after death. Do you know anything about that?

I, too, was not euphoric to return after my experience. I saw my husband from above crying quietly, and I felt like he needed me too much.

Mine happened somewhere during brain surgery for a big bleed, seizures that couldn't be stopped, and the induced coma.

The things that are common in all our experiences are the profound unconditional love and peace. Thanks for sharing your study and perspectives on it.

  7. What a great presentation as well as the responses from it everyone’s stories are real so embrace them. 200 years ago if you told people that you could speak with someone across the world on a phone you would have been labeled a sorcerer I think there are things we may not have to capacity to understand in our current form be it we are not yet evolved or maybe we just don’t listen ,see or choose to

  8. God bless him!
    Amen
Thank you so much for sharing this!
6:39 – It's hard enouhg to explain it in any language and if some geniuos writer manages to put a NDE in readable English, no one would understand it.
I am one of those 75% – I broke up with my mom and dad last year.

  9. Interesting about the ego here. Sometimes we just refuse to accept what we don’t understand. Out of body, we become straight consciousness. The huge whooshing sound is joining our bodies again. 17:14

  10. I'm not afraid of passing. In fact I'm looking forward to it. I can't hardly wait to feel all the immense love these NDE experiencers get to feel. I've struggled for a long time and I'm in poor health, complications from Covid. It wrecked my body. I'm 65 now, will be 66 on October 13th. I wish I knew what my purpose for being here is. I don't know what more i could learn. I'm just tired tired of being in pain every day tired of feeling unwell every day. This has been going on constantly for 2 and a half yrs now and the doctors don't listen. All they want to do is give me all kinds of pills. I refuse to take them. The side effects are horrendous and I have the type of system that gets the side effects. I already feel bad I don't want to feel worse! I would just like to give up but I have 3 kids and 5 g'daughters that holds me here. I'm ready when God's ready!!…. I don't know what possessed me to write this. I'm a pretty much private person. I just felted pulled to do it…….

  11. Thank you for your account, Dr. Cummings! Love, peace and health to you! May you find further good ways to cope with your experience.

  12. This is the 2nd time I’ve watched this. Fascinating. But I’ve always been fascinated by what happened next. How it affected your family? How did your colleagues react? I’ve never been driven, never been an over achiever- I’ve always been happy to be a good average 😂 I taught special needs maths, but I am extremely creative /artistic. I tried to teach in such a way to get very low ability kids have enough numeracy to cope with life. I’m always fascinated by high achievers, they rarely seem to just enjoy the moment. Good luck to you

  13. Thanku for sharing your story Peter. I'm going to make a stretch here, to support how GOOD our Jesus is. If I have this correct, you weren't "saved" before this happened. But He comforted you; assured you, and you weren't left feeling condemned. Thanku Father for being in the work of bringing ALL of Your creation back to You. This is Your will, and I hope and pray that You get what You want. Thanku for loving us ALL 😌💕

  14. Doctor, your story resonates with me BIG TIME. I’ve heard so many accounts of NDE’s over the years, some believable, some blatantly outlandish, and most of which left me with far more questions than answers. Thank you for sharing with such gravitas.

  15. I bet he’s a better more personable doctor now. That’s the problem I’m having and have had with my doctors. Th y treat patients like cattle. Get ‘em in, get ‘em out.
I had a good doctor that retired as all my good doctors have done. Struggling to find a good one now

  16. Peter I have not had a near death death experience. However, I do look forward to experiencing life after death. I do not fear it, because I believe eternity with Jesus will be beautiful beyond description where there will be no more pain and no more suffering.

  17. You didn't die, or you wouldn't be here. So what happened? Hypoxia and the human imagination produce dream visions. Hypoxia produces elation. Stop fantastrophizing about your dreams!

  18. Dear Dr. Cummings, Thank you for sharing your experience. I believe you.
I would love to quickly share the Gospel and why we need Christ as Savior. You and I have broken the laws of God by breaking the 10 Commandments. We've lied, stolen, taken God's name in vain which is blasphemy. Matthew 5, Jesus said whosoever looks at a woman to lust for her as committed adultery and his heart. Most all of us have committed adultery in our hearts and we're all guilty before God. And if God judges us by those 10 commandments, we will be guilty, convicted and given the death sentence of hell for eternity. But what did God do for guilty sinners? He sent his Son Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty for our sin debt in full through His shed blood. He was crucified, died n rose the third day. So what must we do to be saved to be forgiven n delivered from the wrath to come? …we must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ by faith and we shall be saved.
    (Read: Ephesians 2:8&9)
He is the Savior who bore our sin n shame so that we don't have to at the judgment. Last… Scripture tells us, it's appointed unto man once to die and after that to face the judgment. (Hebrews 9:27-28)
    (Romans 6:23)
Please read the Gospel of John…praying for you and your family. ✝️🙏💙 May the Lord pour out his blessing upon you and your family. May he bless you in all that you do. May you bring glory to His great name!

  19. You are so amazing to put your experience out there for us to look stem to and connect with. You are not alone. This will take time it’s understandable that you are trying to find the words, you will eventually. Please just know it’ll take time, but your with the right people.

  20. I'm not getting the point of this story, How was this a NDE? You were hypoxic and you recovered (as opposed to being revived). In other words, you were unconscious and you woke up which is fairly common, yes?

You sound like you've suffered an hypoxic brain injury, The effects of hypoxic or anoxic brain injury, where the brain is starved of oxygen, can range from mild, short-term symptoms such as dizziness or concentration problems, through to severe, long-term issues including vision, speech, spatial disorders and memory.

  21. Thank you for sharing your story. I don't think it's insignificant that you have always had a fear of water and experienced this near death experience? The other thing I wanted to say is it's hard to imagine you being agnostic and I hope you see this as a compliment as the spirit is alive in you. God Bless you and your family and ask your wife to allow you to be a bit more conservative in your adventures! LOL

  22. I think you have stepped into the spiritual part of your life that’s why you lost time when talking to people. Experiences with people meant more than a schedule because those conversations were important and needed to happen to help that person and yourself spiritually. Spiritual and emotions are the same thing. Your emotions and personality is your spirit/soul. The body is just a vessel. That’s why when someone dies you can see them laying there but you have a overwhelming feeling that it’s not them anymore they aren’t there it’s because their soul has left. Science doesn’t have the ability to encompass or understand the spiritual part of our human experience and probably never will. That’s why faith is important because it’s believing even when you don’t have proof. For talks about faith because faith is what keeps us travelling on that spiritual path. You also need to be around positive people and toxic environments make you sick which is like most people especially people who have had a spiritual awakening like yourself. So don’t feel bad about stepping away from old parts of your life. It’s okay to step away from things that don’t serve you anymore. It was just one part of your life and one season and it helped you grow, but now it’s time to move to the next chapter of growth. Never think you failed by stepping away from a certain profression etc. you haven’t failed, it’s still a part of you and it will carry with you for the rest of your days. Don’t limit yourself to one path of knowledge but let yourself be open to learning new things.
