Excerpt #1- On the morning of November 11th, 2018 Anders Broste was teaching a friend, Dan Hansen to hunt elk and deer. The men had pushed their way through a few inches of snow early in the morning when they approached a very thick, tangled stand of brush. The branches of the leafless underbrush tugged at Anders clothes and his rifle as he fought his way through it. His visibility was very limited and he couldn’t do anything about the noise of the bushes rustling against his clothes and other branches as we forced his way through. Hansen was about 150 yards away from him filming as Anders navigated his route.
As he parted the brush with effort, he looked up and noticed a big bear head rising up before him from behind a log. He immediately recognized the dish faced profile of a grizzly bear and he was filled with terror as he realized he had its focused attention. The bear was a mere 15 yards from him and spun quickly to face this surprise interuption to its slumber.
Thirty six year old Anders moved to his home he shared with his wife, Anaka, on Trumbull Canyon Road after the two had wed and he accepted a job at Applied Materials selling specialized bikes around the world. He has always been drawn to the mountains and even rearranged his life so that he could be where he loved to adventure and be active. Anaka was from the area and knew her husband would love doing what he enjoyed there.
Excerpt #2-Now, Tev had been charged by bears in the past. In fact, in twenty sixteen he was charged two times that hunting season, on the same day. The year prior to that Tev was also charged by a bear. For anyone who believes in the odds of any given occurrence, you might tend to believe that Tev’s luck was about to run out. Well, not quite yet.
Scott had actually drawn the controlled hunt tag for the hunting unit, and Tev decided to tag along for the fun. They rose before sunrise and departed camp on that Friday morning, hoping to find a bull elk of satisfactory size. Tev and Scott were glassing for elk on the day in question. If you have never hunted, that means that they were searching with binoculars or spotting scopes for animals located on adjacent ridges. This method of hunting gives the hunters a chance to see the animal they are pursuing and plan a route to stalk it.
The men hiked the steep trails into the high country as the wind howled. They had continually located elk from afar, only to watch them slip away, further into higher and steeper elevations.
As the wind forced the hunters into a slouching resistance, it also masked their scent from animals near them. Given the steepness of the terrain, they would appreciate any advantage they could gain.
Excerpt #3-They watched as the cubs were threatened by a male bear, called a boar, and were impressed with the power and commitment of the mother bear to protect her cubs. She backed him down and her and the cubs were on their way safely after the tense standoff.
The next morning Barry discussed circling around the bears and observing them from a viewpoint called Crowfoot Ridge. It would put the researchers much closer to the bears and allow them to gather more data. After a short hike the scientists reached their observation point, but Barry had to urinate and walked a short distance into the bush to relieve himself.
As Barry crested the top of the pass, the mother bear and her cubs crested it from the other side, in exactly the same place. Witnessing the prior day’s tense standoff with the boar and the ultra protective nature of mother bears, Barry knew this could be very bad.
By the time Barry could process the situation, the sow let out a loud “woof” and blurred through the surrounding under growth that separated the pair. A mousy smear of motion and the next thing Barry knew, he was on the ground. The sow was quick and efficient in her assault of the perceived threat. Barry felt the bear lock into his head and could hear and feel the tissue of his scalp being torn away, but felt no immediate pain. The sow then savagely clamped down on Barry’s cheekbones and crushed them, then pulled his cheekbone completely apart from his face. All Barry could think of was “this is how you die”.

  1. Agree, bear spray might have been helpful. Never leave home without it or at the very least, .45 caliber side piece. The possible question of how experienced the friend was is a factor imo. It’s fortunate that it stopped its attack and moved on, that alone saved his life. I would imagine it views him as a competitor most likely but other factors may have been in the mix. Lucky break, I’d be saying extra prayers each night going forward. It wasn’t your time yet.

  2. Anderson shouldn't have been there. He was surely unqualified to be walking in a forest with Grizzly's. He's lucky that his ignorance didn't get him killed, That was ONLY because the Bear left him alone. Thank the Grizzly for not killing this Boy/man

  3. Isn’t it strange that for hundreds of years we’ve all grown up with cuddly teddy bears most of which are modeled after brown bears as a form of comfort? lol they were killing so many western migrators they killed off all the grizzlies in California and yet we still teach children to snuggle up to them for nap time lol

  4. I have no idea how to answer your questions concerning the black bear attack on one individual on a fishing boat. The bear couldn't be disduaded or distracted by salmon meat thrown overboard as a compensation. The entire attack makes no sense. It turns out the male bear was greatly undernourished . That's the only clue , as far as I can tell, as to the bizarre & unusual behavior of this bear. Nature is sometimes entirely unpredictable!

  5. I think when people venture into the wild with intentions to kill an animal they are taken a big risk. It is like someone coming into our home with the intent to kill. These animals are only protecting their environment. I am sad for anyone so badly injured by an attack. I just wish people didn’t hunt.

  6. Bears being pushed onto human occupied areas? No, people treading into bear territories. Always blaming the animals when it's us infringing on their territories.

  7. Are the hunters absolutely stupid. They need to stay home before they wound another bear. Wounded bears kill people. Are they stupid stupid stupid, I think they are idiots

  8. Bighorn pass is in Wyoming, Yellowstone is over 97% in Wyoming, ypu guys need to get your information straight, such buulshit you can't even get Yellowstone straight and think it's mostly in Montana! Morons!

  9. I dont believe in euthinizing the bears for 1 attack. Ofcourse l dont want to see more people attacked but unless a bear starts attacking people frequently, shouldnt be killed. They were in the bears land. I think the bear was startled and l do think bear spray may help. Thx for the videos! ❤ Patty

  10. Commenting on the last story is difficult. Tev sounds like an interesting character. I am sure Tev and his father are great guys. Letter of the law and spirit of the law is most likely a relevant subject.

  11. I think humans are pushing into their territory. I also think there’s a lot more bears out there then what they claim. I’m not sure bear spray would have prevented anything, but it might not have hurt, we will never know. As far as doing something different, I don’t think so. He was teaching his friend how to hunt, which requires them to be very quiet, but alert. He probably should have got to the ground and covered his head and neck. His pack might have helped🤷🏻‍♀️. You know, play dead. You never know at all.

  12. It's not a popular thing to hear, but we have too many people an we r moving into all of our wildlife s homes .we would be upset an protective if a strange person moved i
    N our backyard.

  13. "He plans to keep on hunting"!. Is this guy morally sane? Many hunters realize and cease hunting for respect felt during a altercation👍. Since he has decided to keep on hunting, and to inflict pain and suffering to Animals, it's too bad the Bear didn't finish him off! Maybe next time🙏.

  14. Anders Brost, the bicycle salesman, should have known that he would have problems with the area grizzlies. Bears, in general, prefer a Unicycle: they are a better fit for their short rear legs and allow them to ride upright while eating honey and peanut butter sandwiches.
Sometimes I wonder if people who come to Montana from elsewhere ever really understand our Bears.

  15. I think the guy never hit the bear with his shor and I'm glad he didn't also I think if he did hit bear with the shot I think it may have been a minor flesh wound and the bear actually survived it because of how minor it was its refreshing to have a story where both bear and hunter survived virtually unscathed
