This male lion is most probably chasing his son out of his territory because he has reached sexual maturity. This aids in ensuring genetic diversity of lion populations. As seen in the video the younger male lion is showing submissive behaviour and his days are numbered. This awesome footage was captured in Zebra Hills Game Reserve.

Male lions grow impressive manes the older they get. These manes grow up to 16cm long and are a sign of dominance. The older they get, the darker their manes go.  

As well as attracting females, their manes may also protect their neck and head from injuries during fights.
