Death Toll from Libyan Floods Tops 6,000 in Latest Climate Disaster
The floods burst two dams in the eastern coastal city and swept away homes. Streets are covered in mud and rubble and are littered with upturned vehiclesThe biggest devastation is in the town of Derna, where two dams collapsed. Much of the town is thought to have been swept into the sea and reports suggest over a thousand bodies have been recovered there alone.
Thousands have died in North Africa this week due to the Morocco earthquake and Libya floods. People are angry and disappointed in their governments. Is politics to blame for this devastation? Could the damage have been reduced by government action?
