  1. I’m just learning to drive manual well and I started changing gear while slowing down just because I felt like it’s the right thing to do but it really distracts me from the road and I end up not slowing down fast enough because I’m too busy changing gear instead of pressing the brake

  2. As I learned, also a safety reason not to roll in neutral. If engine stalls you lose power steering and braking. That can also be a malfunction, not neccesarily a drivers mistake. Also fuel conomy. There is no consumption while slowing in gears. In neutral, the car consumes ~ 0.5-1 liters per hours

  3. If you have to quickly slow down better push clutch down in press break by example you are 70 speed and gear 5th and suddenly front car reduced speed to 20km then better put full clutch and when speed reach near 20 change from 5 to 2nd .
If you reduce 5,4,3 ,2 it will take too much time although this case engine cause more resistance but quickly you can not do this if suddenly need to reduce speed

  4. i’ve always been skeptical about slowing down using the clutch only, if im in 6th and i need to come to a stop at a light i’ll down shift till im in 4th or 3rd at least just in case someone gets in my way or starts cutting me off i have torque to be defensive

  5. A lot of times, if I see a stop approaching, I’ll go into neutral and coast and then brake, and then if I need to start again I’ll choose a gear that matches my speed, usually 3 is a safe one, and continue. That way I don’t have to worry about shifting down

  6. My instructor failed me here in australia during my practical test for stopping by holding the clutch and coming to a stop rather than chaning gears as I slowes down. Failed me for "clutch riding multiple times" Now im VERY confused.

  7. I live in Canada, so it's not as necessary to know how to drive a manual transmission, but obviously, I want to be able to hop into any car and be able to go. I'm terrible at down shifting for this reason, and I think it would definitely help while I'm learning rather than be a danger to everyone because I'm freaking out about which gear I'm supposed to be in.

  8. Thanks so much for the various videos about driving manual transmission cars. The videos help me a lot in understanding how to drive a manual car. I spent one week at a driving school and the rest of my training was done through watching your videos and now am a highly qualified driver driving manual cars with confidence.

  9. I've never heard of this before (also not taught this in my driving lessons I have right now), but I saw some people talk about it, and that it's better for the car or something? I was interested in it, since I sometimes find it hard. I just brake until I'm fully stopped, and otherwise I'll just hope I'm in the right gear lol. It always scares me to down gears, because I always shock the car when I do, since I don't know what gear I have to be in at what speed lol.

  10. Now I know I'm not ready to practice engine breaking (because I lost focus on the road). I'm practice more with my perception on the road then come back to this skill. Thanks for the video!

  11. What happens if you have to instantly brake and don’t have time to downshift? can u go from a gear for example ^ gear five^ to gear one

  12. I don't know any driver that approaches a roundabout in higher than second gear… Although this video is a year old

  13. Great video. I always change down to 2nd then stop completely. Then neutral, hand brake up, first gear, clutch control, 360 observations, hand brake down and I move off. Is that OK on test day?

  14. So is it okay to brake while in gear (as long as you don’t lug the engine)? I was taught it’s never okay to brake while in gear under any circumstance.

  15. When you're driving and you slow down for a bit and quickly speed back up do you need to focus on the gear as a beginner? Like if you're in 3rd gear but ur speed is around 20-25mph do u need to switch btw gears

  16. Omg, that is soo helpful! I always jolt the car whenever I change down gear and the instructor haven't really explained it very well. And now I think I get it now why I have to wait longer when changing down. Thank you! 🙂

  17. every testers in ireland has different standards in this depending if they need to forcefully fail a learner to fill the Fail Quota for more government profit. is it the same in UK? i guess maybe coz ireland copies everything in UK

  18. How do you avoid coasting when changing down gears? Would you suggest getting the gear ready before a turn but still continuing braking while bringing the clutch up? OR bring the clutch up and press the gas? Because its difficult to slow the car down when going from high speed to lower speeds

  19. Dude I was going 60 in 4th went down to 40 went into 3rd then went down to 30 and went into 2nd and my car went crazy the wheels spun and it stopped too fast after that my Speedo stopped working and a spark plug went out 🧐

  20. Can you rev match while breaking and shifting down? I find that very hard to do so I usually let the transmission rev match but I have heard it would be better to rev match. But that is very hard to do if you have to break aswell

  21. I usually do this way (release gas, then apply a little bit of break to go slower, the downshift) however I've seen drivers going downshift without even stepping on the breaks (usually see this from going 3rd to 2nd). Is the second one (no applying breaks) okay to do?

  22. Just found your channel!
    I'm doing my lessons atm
And gear change down is the worst for me.
    I don't know why!
I just panic, and i break and keep my foot on the break while I change the gear. But I'm find moving up the gears. It's crazy haha x

  23. 1:00 slowing down and selecting the right gear

2:10 you will have to hold the clutch down on the bite point longer when changing down gears than changing up
