Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the wonderful world of animals comes and shocks you once again! Meet “Unit”, a massive, extremely overweight snapping turtle that was surrendered to the Pop Corn Park Animal Refuge. Unit was fed a diet exclusively of Friskie’s cat food and well, that’s definitely a very unhealthy way to feed any turtle. Sure, common snapping turtles are supposed to be big and they are in fact one of the largest freshwater turtles in the USA, but they typically are supposed to weigh between 10 and 35 pounds…guess how much Unit weighs? Find out in this video and see how we accept him into the family here at Garden State Tortoise.

So, now that you’ve met “Unit”, what do you think we can get his weight down to? 🤔
Take him out of that shell he looks really uncomfortable
What a beautiful man and zoo.
Cat food for that 🐢 is like eating MacDonalds 🍟🍔
😙💚 beautiful people and animals
Processed/Manufactured food will slowly kill anything with a pulse. This turtle is an example. What a shame.
The parrot heard him say they fed a turtle cat food & said
🤔😂😂
I now know what I'd look like wearing a turtle shell. Cake for days!
You gotta do more videos with John and Popcorn Park! ❤
Would you be willing to give all of the money you make off of this video to this rescue? I feel like that would be very helpful to the rescue.
Turtle has a booty. 😊. I donated. Thanks for video.
Unit seemed very unhappy with you poking his love handles. What a cutie!
The thumbnail made me think its the same species as Evil Turtle from TAWOG
Would love to watch………but the bird screeching means both of my chihuahuas are hiding. lol
I had a snapping turtle I found after he hatched in a quarry, I've always joked that you never see a fat turtle. Unfortunately I now have, and frankly, I'm glad you folks exist to assist.
Thanks for helping the poor guy!
😳😳😳 I have never in my life seen such an overweight turtle.
Terrifying that they fed the turtle meat :'0 so sad
Ya that turtle is THICK!
why would anyone think feeding a turtle cat food would be loving and caring for your turtle? this is why people dont need pets especially exotics…jeez!
Turtle butt…lol
He has butt checks
What exactly happens when a turtle gets overweight? He's kind of bulging around his shell. He can't exactly go get a larger size like when I gain weight. His rear leg area looks painfully bulging 😢
I wonder how that injured one had the enclosure set up. If it had to endure the heat lamp constantly bc the enclosure was too small, or if it had to choose between hypothermia and being burned. I do believe it felt it bc they have nerves in their shell.
Trenton Ontario Canada, the Trent River ive seen way bigger snappers, maybe not so fat but def bigger, they go into cold creek
I have seen a common snapping turtle that big in the wild. Buckhorn lake in Ontario Canada. Fishing off a causeway it swam right below us along the shore. It was a wonderful sight to see.
I've seen alligator snapping that big. We ate it
Tortoises need sun, and lots of vegetables
Tortoises need calcium to make their shell. You need to talk about that calcium. I raised a tortoise, and they need calcium TUMS all the time
I've met Max before! I can't forget that hole at the top of his shell. I grew up going to Popcorn Park zoo. I remember they would let you feed the animals popcorn, even animals, that looking back, should really not be eating popcorn lol
Unit is so sweet, I am looking forward to seeing him thrive at Garden State Tortoise
Hey Max! Glad the other big guy found a home.
augh, grimacing everytime hes held by the shell, that poor thing must be agonized feeling his own weight pulling against his shell 😢
My wife and I are very confused to the range of size for common snapping turtles that this gentlemen is describing.
In 'central' MN we have seen much larger. Especially in flood zones of the st croix river.
But; we definitely have never seen a turtle as obese as that one. Sad.
Please keep us updated on how Unit is doing! We are so Thankful for what you do! Thank you
