I upvoted this video but the resolution is atrocious
The amazing overwhelming work of emergency crew is seen. They did not mess around! Props to Kansas City emergency !!! They hauled in a freaking crane into the building and got a bulldozer to rip out the front doors for the water to flow out so no one drowns!
The Rainmakers commemorated this tragedy in Bob Walkenhorst's song "Rockin' At The T-Dance."
The narrator keeps saying the 1st and 3rd floor walkways collapsed. I thought it was the 2nd and 4th floor? Can someone clarify?
13:59 just broke my heart
Oh my God this super mega loud explosion Kansas city
The Narrator needs a Valium, he's a bit dramatic.
It's an act of god those walkways made it over a year before they failed.
Did I take off my glass's when I watched this video, or is it the picture resolution? You tell me. I thought I had them on.
I had to see this hotel In person. It’s now the Sheraton and it’s Erie knowing what hell went on while in the beautiful lobby. Condolences to the Victims Alive and Deceased.
Idk why they cut a part out exactly between 44:11 and 44:13.
I'll sum it up, the part that is missing is a part of Frank Freeman's interview (the guy who lost his partner at the collapse) where he said that he was angry that there was no memorial at that time. Now there is one built just in front of what used to be Hyatt Hotel.
Well it definitely turned into a hard news story considering what happened
Well, Kansas City was chosen for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
They didn't have 911 in 1981
Please explain to how in tf did any engineer would think that those rods would support a walkway, yet a walkway with people on it???
Were there any wrongful death lawsuits?
When an event like this happens because of the structural failure, engineers are probably responsible. My question is, who's fault is it, or who do they blame on, the architecture? structural engineer? Draftsman? or the builders?
I’m from KC, 36, and I’m just now hearing about this. Almost embarrassed to say so 😅
Then Surfside happened…
I hate how they use actors and reenactment instead of showing real footage of guests that day.
I walked across that thing 2 months before it collapsed…creepy
KMBC9 Chronicle: The Skywalk Tapes is in several segments and it’s the best. Even better than this. It talks to survivors and people that helped them survive. The EMTs etc. were literally standing in blood.
I later worked at old Saint Mary’s Hospital. Horror stories of the hallways of the hospital lined with injured. Jeff died so that others might live.
This is my number one fave documentary-type show I've ever seen. Seconds From Disaster is the best and is truly a shame the show stopped airing some years ago
I lost a friend that night. He and his girlfriend invited me but I had to work. Thank you God. I was a single mom of a 4 year old daughter.
8:27 he and his boyfriend?…. t.f.
This documentary is tasteless lol
Whew child😗
This is one of the more niche Seconds from Disaster episodes but still enjoyable.
Oh my god, poor Frank. 😭
I live in Mid-Missouri and have friends in KC. Driving by the Hyatt to this day is haunting and that tragedy never forgotten.
"Re-found" my college (DeVry Institute) graduation pamphlet while cleaning out some boxes… June 12, 1981. I was walking on the skywalks 35 days before the collapse – I figure they weren't visible, but fairly sure the nuts would have been bending/pulling through the channel by then. We'll never know how many 'near misses' we've had in life.
Edit: Hadn't seen this before, but it shows the channels were bending/concealed when I was there. I left for my CA job on 7/1/81 (pulling a trailer w/all worldly possessions behind my '68 Chevy rustbucket convertible) and don't remember hearing about this. Incredible analysis, and fortunate to have footage by the TV reporter/videographer.
I could see the design flaw as soon as they showed the skywalks .. I could see that 2 skywalks we're sharing the same hooks .. whereas the other skywalk wasn't! .. That one didn't collapse! 😒
