  1. When lungs have salt water in them they fill up with fresh water the body has stored to dilute it and that's what ultimately drowns you internally. I'm not sure why they don't mention this more. I learned that from Bondi rescue.

  2. An O2 of 48, he would be unconscious with brain damage. 70 is brain damage territory. I worked in medicine, and the first thing you need to know about a pulse ox is if you get something like 48 take it off, dry it and the finger, make sure it has proper contact and try again. This is the second time I have seen one of the lifeguards use a pulse ox, get something that doesn't seem right and seem to just accept it. I know for a fact the lifeguards at Bondi get extensive training in first aid. I really don't understand why they are not being taught how to properly use the equipment they have. It really looks like they haven't been trained to use it properly. These are some of, if not the best, ocean lifeguards in the world, but most people don't know how to really properly use any diagnostic tool unless someone teaches them.

  3. The whole team at Bondi should be so proud of themselves. The clubbies are angels 😇 for volunteering all that time. The life guards are all top notch. 👌
If I ever make it to Australia, Bondi will be the place I visit first. 😊

  4. Any time you get water in the lungs there is a chance of Aspiration pneumonia. It occurs when food or liquid is breathed into the airways or lungs. Last year I experienced gerd in my sleep and stomach acid got into my lungs.

I woke up with burning sensation and I could not breath. I thought I was going to die. It was a full minute before I got air. Several days later, I was very sick. I put off seeing my doctor. When I finally did I had Aspiration pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and nasty sinus infection. He said I was lucky to be alive and to never put off going to Hospital or Doctor.

I told him I was going to call 911, but figured I would already be dead before they got to me. Lesson learned – ask for help sooner rather than later or it could might be too late.
