  1. Um…still an advocate of hands off. Just our presence down there, much less what we dump into our oceans, is bad enough.

To all new divers out there, when your instructor tells you during your training to not touch anything, it means to NOT TOUCH ANYTHING. Don't know who this clown is, but I'd put him back on the boat if I saw him doing this.

  2. He’s the one going up to the octopus that was minding his business but yet wants to give him the no no finger when it got to interested back.

  3. “It felt like an interaction between two thinking beings.”
“Once he realised I wasn’t food or sex he left.”

I feel like the lack of curiosity beyond base desires isn’t a sign of great intelligence. I’m sure they are super intelligent, but still.

  4. Caboose: 😨 You told me thats another arm.

Octopus: Ever heard of tentacles arms in anime.

Caboose: I don't think I want to watch that. 😢

  5. I bet the octopus was fascinated by the different textures & colours of the diver & all his gear. The good part of social media is how we’re getting to see more & more of these amazing interactions between species. I think this is the way the world is meant to be. Humans being curious but kind & making life better for other creatures when we have an opportunity, not being cruel, destructive, selfish & greedy.

  6. I wonder if the octopus has any recognition that the clothing and equipment are not the same as the organic parts of the diver, or if it is all one strange being made of various fleshy and other weirder materials to him.
Either version is probably an amazing thing for the octopus to try to figure out.

  7. It's extraordinary that animals with such short lifespans are so intelligent. The longest living species, the Giant Pacific Octopus, lives no more than 3-5 years. Makes me wonder what, why and how its learning abilities are so time condensed.
