Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. He was previously on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, where he was Clinical Chief of Psychiatry.
Dr. Greyson has consulted with the National Institutes of Health and addressed symposia on consciousness at the United Nations and at the Dalai Lama’s compound in Dharamsala, India. He has earned awards for his medical research and was elected a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the highest honor bestowed by that organization.
Dr. Greyson’s interest in near-death experiences began just a few months after graduating from medical school, when he treated an unconscious patient in the emergency room who stunned him the next morning with an account of leaving her body. T
hat event challenged his beliefs about the mind and the brain, and ultimately led him on a journey to study near-death experiences scientifically, leading to more than a hundred publications in medical journals.
He co-founded the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), an organization to support and promote research into these experiences, and for 27 years edited the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the only scholarly journal dedicated to near-death research. Through his research, he has discovered common and universal themes in near-death experiences that go beyond neurophysiological or cultural interpretations, as well as patterns of consistent aftereffects on individuals’ attitudes, beliefs, values, and personalities.
Dr. Greyson is the author of After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond. The book challenges our everyday ideas about our minds and our brains and offers key insights on how we can begin to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

What is your biggest take away from this conversation?
Why do majority people who have experienced NDE and come on you tube channels , start writing books about their experience. Do they become aurhors, as soon as they enter into their bodies again
It’s always fascinating to hear people who have studied this speak on it.
Amazing conversation, so good questions Alex, I love your channel. Thank you 🙏 ❤🕉️
Dreams can be mind-blowing….but what do NDEs have in common?
This was one of the most riveting interviews I have witnessed on this website. Dr. Greyson's experience with the subject of NDE mirrors my own experience with this subject. I, too, have not had an NDE, but nearly everything about an NDE resonates with my being. I understand where Dr. Greyson is coming from. Furthermore, his manner of speaking was consistent and very, very clear.
Looks like the physical brain is in conflict with conscious living in this world.
When you have no control over your birth and death, what makes you think you have any in between?
Death is an irrational fear- no one will ever be able to say 'I am dead now'. Near dead is not dead- neither dead nor alive but not dead. To die you must be alive- each one who fears death should firstly find that which is alive, i.e., what/who is that you call 'me-I'.
Hello Alex, great videos. Can I ask of the number of people you interviewed who should of died because they were terminally ill, how many were competely healed? Thank you Alex in the UK
Amazing analyst!
To Raven: I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling. I'm sure your little treasure is safe and happy and doesnt want you to suffer.
Neither you nor anyone else will come back to tell us about what happened to you at the moment of death or after death
nice peaceful outro
What does that mean ? What is this case was explained in video? 20:44 21:40
NDE people encounter someone who was dead but no one knew had died ..
The less active the brain is, the more clear the true reality becomes.
Meditation/Dreams: The brain is less active and using less power during low thoughts and dreaming, and we experience deeper fields of imagination.
Psychedelics have shown on scans that the brain is actually less stimulated, and when one is on psychedelics, Life begins to show
you things that are there, but your brain is all way too far highly functional and examining every small detail that it misses
the true life.
The more calm the brain is, the more true reality you can see.
regarding the children remembering their womb memories. Yes, even adults can retrieve memories. I have attended group healing therapies, where people's pre-verbal memories as well as womb memories surfaced for healing.
It seems as if we are born to learn from our various life experiences. And the choices that we choose to make towards ourselves. And the other people that we come into contact with along our lifes path. And try to learn how to treat each other, and each others babies.
It was absolutely impossible for existence, and the observable cosmos to have been able to plan for, then design, and then create its own self! Seek spiritually to receive your answers from the creation source of the highest consciousness! Your answers will eventually be manifested to you from the creation source!
Dr. Greyson's work is invaluable. This interview was enlightening and one of the best.
evolved?
Study Buddhism if you need to know more about souls after death.
In my dreams I can actually tell time clearer than in reality to be honest. I can tell when the events get compressed and when they get stretched out by their presentation and I stay actually aware of time as though I am not in the dream.
I am 74 and in good health. I have been blessed to have come this far and will continue my earthly journey until God brings me Upstairs. I will not indulge in meditation, shutting down my brains, etc. Life is wonderful. Nature is wonderful and I can experience that every day…the sunrise, sunsets, the flowers, leaves, people, etc. It is not perfect and there are much sorrows and hardships. But I will enjoy each God-given day. Be Blessed.
Even while watching the NDE episode, I will also read the many comments…those are often very helpful as it is sharing of experiences and thoughts. For me, Death is not an event to be fearful. In fact, after the NDE videos, I look forward to my own death and to the Beyond. I will give more love to God, to Society while I am still in my physical body.
I've had some out-of-body experiences many years ago through taking high doses of ketamine, so nice to hear you touch on that. I think that's when I realized there's more than meets the eye.
I have so much gratitude and respect for Dr Greyson. Not only for the sincerity and wonderful ability to tell the stories and experiences he has shared but for professional people in the world of medicine and science, it takes an authentic and courageous person to blaze the trail that is uplifting us all to the kind of world/life we all want. Thank you both. 🙏
Powerful episode.
Trouble is, ALL NDE experiences are all the same as the culture these people live in. Nothing unique or different. Rats have NDEs.
i encountered your channel after i watched After Death movie. I was in the part where you asked about pre-life existence. I had experience before my mother passed. I had this dream, i was in the hospital and i was crying because i sent someone in the emergency room and i don't know who it was. several months pass, i was in the same situation and i saw the person i took the hospital and it was my mom. it was the very same scenario and it happened in real life. i had so many incidents like this and i just brushed it away from my mind.
My son died of brain cancer on August 27, 2023. Since then, I have had at least five signs/contacts from him that he is OK. Two dream contacts, two animal contacts, one amazing movie coincidence. Go see the new movie "After Death" …. it's great.
Learn to love in spite of the conflict.
Great episode, Alex. I really like when you have medical professionals discuss nde's.
terrific
Love this part: to paraphrase (from about 37 minutes in) – Dr. Greyson said he's learned from NDEers that it's a friendly universe… there's nothing to be afraid of… the only thing that makes us afraid is our imagination…
Also, those who are not afraid of death are not afraid to live; they live more fully and are more present.
And I love te view outside the paradigm of our type of logic; we tend to like the simplicity of black or white… but it could be black, it could be white, it could be both black and white, or it could be neither.
Awesome!!!! ❤
Absoloutely fascinating and very soothing to watch and hear
Thank you
I think the brain is some kind of mask that stops the mind seeing many things.
Yeshua said in his prayer to the Father God, that the disciples and (all believers) would be ONE as he and the Father are ONE. So we truly are all connected! John 17:20-23
Been here done that. My Angel told me, ‘not my time’ 50 years ago. Our entire body is Brain. We store data everywhere even…
I had an episode where I saw the bright light. I actually felt the bright light and the peace and the love everyone talks of. I don't know how I got there and I did not stay long but I saw it and I felt it and it was real
The spirit is separate from the body and the spirit is what is seeing clear beyond death
