Animal shelters at capacity as more people give up pets

Animal shelters at capacity as more people give up pets
Spread The Viralist

Animal shelters around the nation are full of pets in need, and New Jersey’s are no exception. The rising costs of pet care and pet supplies due to inflation have exacerbated an existing trend of people giving up animals they adopted early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

  1. Pitbull dog needs to be taken a look at a law enforcement agency as a detection dog , if he has high prey drive , his character looks like he would be a good one so he needs to be taken a look at a canine professional

  2. It's not that people are "giveing up " on pets. The cost of living is way too out of hand and one way to save money is to not have a pet or pay extra rent for a pet friendly apartment. I love my dog but when she's dead, i think she'll be my last pet.. This really saddens me, because i want a pet, but there's no way i can affoured another one. Capitalism is ruining this country.

  3. 😸🐶🐇Things to be considered: 1. Pet deposits are very high ! 2. Some places don't accept pets. 3. Vet costs. 4. Guilt of keeping an animal indoors. 5. Clean up urine, feces, hairballs. 6. They need to be played with a lot. 7. Travel. 8. Training. Etc.

  4. Wear that doggie out 45 minute walk daily, and a park perhaps by himself running around at least 10-20 times a month, someone devoted who exercises outside and just wants to enjoy the pout of doors with exercise. An historic park, hikes, acreage.

  5. I would not live in a community that did not allow my pets and as far as loss of a home(I was in that situation in the late summer of 2022 when landlord sold the house I lived in for 12 years)…I was prepared to live in my car if necessary WITH my dog. God blessed me instead to find a new home…more expensive but we have shelter, food and safety..I’m 69 years old. There is no way I would give up my dog

  6. I thought about adopting a cat. Then I saw "shelters" want $150-200 for mix breeds with lifelong diseases. They want even more for the dogs! That's a big NOPE from me. Keep them in your CAGES and tell yourselves you're doing the right thing by that.

  7. Humans don’t deserve pets. You don’t take care of them, you treat them as accessories and not living breathing lifeforms. It honestly doesn’t surprise me, look how they treat each other.

  8. people if you aint willing to take care of a life from thick n thin , dont do it , you gotta dedicate a huge part of your life to a dog , no way that many people are unable to take care of their dog . what sad is if they dont take them in they will be abandon in the streets, smh , you people know who you are , im talking to you . If you are a frustrated person , lazy , dont love yourself , mood swings , dont get a dog ,smh , thats simple DONT GET A DOG , get a bug from outside and put in a jar

  9. I'm homeless right now. I have two young dogs. I lost my housing and i dont know what to do. I'd be okay living in a car on my own. It's nothing for me. But it's been much much tougher with two dogs with me….that said. I'm not giving them up. I fuckin refuse. I've come close but it was in a moment of true weakness and hopelessness. But they are my everything. I won't give up on me or them. Maybe I'm stupid. It's definitely why getting housing has been harder, but I made a commitment and even if I didn't, these girls are my fuckin life. I just continue to thank my friends for occaisionally watching them for me. I'd never give them up

  10. Please please get your cats fixed! It’s abusive to breed more cats! I have personally rescued about fifteen cats because people don’t take responsibility for them !!! My dogs and birds were rescued and I was a volunteer at a horse rescue. Please take care of the animals they matter and don’t deserve to suffer. Thank you so very much to all the people helping them ❤.

  11. The Humane society in my county didn’t have an overcrowding problem until they raised their adoption fee to $350 for puppies, and $250 for adult dogs. They also gave themselves big pay raises. I’ll wait to find a homeless dog myself and bring it home or there’s plenty of people giving their litter away for free rather than buy from a shelter. Lower your prices to $50 and the shelter will empty

  12. If the prices for pet food and products could be lowered to a much more reasonable price!!! The veterinarians prices are outrageous. How can we keep our wonderful pets when all the prices keep going up?? I love my animals and sometimes go without myself to make sure they are taken care of. Wake up to what is really going on.

  13. KEEP YOUR ANIMALS AND TREAT THEM THE WAY U WANT TO BE TREATED. YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF BEING A PET PARENT R NOT DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND. U R THEIR FAMILY AND THEY DEPEND ON U. LETTING AN ANIMAL OUT AND GET HIM BY A CAR OR RUN AWAY AND NOT CARING WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM IS NEGLECT AND ABUSE. DON'T BE AN UNCOMPASSIONATE PSYCHO. DOMESTICATED ANIMALS DEPEND ON US.

  14. I'm certainly no PETA person, but i've seen animals adopted purely out of selfish reasons by their owners. When the animal needs love, help, guidance, training and care, then the owners give it up to high k*ll shelters. Blaming the economy does nothing as we all know it currently sucks due to the current RESIDENT of the geriatric house. Don't use kids as an excuse either. If you can't take care of an animal…..then you certainly can't raise kids. Downsize your vehicles to get lower payments and insurance costs, eliminate your $7/day coffee, and cook at home so you can afford the pet that YOU wanted. Some real good explaining to do to the LORD when your time comes regarding the forced euthenasia of perfectly good beings.

  15. This is very sad. These extremely hard economic times have forced people not to be able to take care of their pets. I just hope that people will think wisely before bringing home a pet and make sure that they are able to care for the animal including Financially. Lots of prayers that all of these pets will find a happy home.

  16. Im wondering if the shelters could possible do a program with people in jail that could help the prisoners rehabilitation the the dogs/ cats or other animals and foster them at the / jail/prison it could help both situations..

  17. Most of it is because when the pandemic was full on, they could telework from home.

Now, bosses are forcing employees to come to the office and do their job that is 100% capable of being done via telework.

Now, they cannot be home to care for their pets. Same with kids. People had more babies during this time. Now, having the added burden of paying for child care.

  18. Bidenomics and gangstalking marxism the causation. Not Covid. Covid is nothing; fear was the weapon of choice and weakening the population with kool-aid concoction via needles.
