  1. How stupid are you people. One newscaster talked about going online to check find warming centers. REALLY? HOW DOES ONE DO THAT IF THEY ARE HOMELESS?????? IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER….YOU ARE ALREADY HOME! This highlights a lack of understanding and preparedness for natural disasters, especially for the vulnerable.

  2. I remember being 8 years old during that blizzard of 79 and walking through the streets to school every day because the schools didnt close. Schools used to stay open with 20 inches of snow, now they close for 3 or 4 inches. Its incredible how our perception and response to natural disasters like these have evolved.

  3. As a 12-year-old in 1967, I remember there was so much snow, everything was so quiet, like sound was being muffled by the snow. Kinda creepy in a way. Its moments like these when the powerful silence of natural disasters really strikes you.

  4. I worked for the railroad during the 79 winter. There were drifts so high and long, shorter and lighter freight trains were actually getting stuck. Front-end loaders had to dig them out. The drifts were so high and hard packed. It was a mess, a testament to the challenging nature of dealing with natural disasters.

  5. I remember 1967 we walked to school. It was cold. No buses back in those days. No parents driving you to school. 😂 I was born in Aurora. Moved to Florida in 1972. I miss the snow and the way we used to handle such natural disasters with resilience.

  6. In 91, I had major leg surgery. The day of my appointment, I was picked up by a snowmobile. They were picking up able patients and the medical staff. It was very cool. No drama, just people working together in the face of a natural disaster. I love West of Chicago.

  7. I had to man up today to do exodus… I am so glad I woke up very early. It was really bad with limited sight. A ton of cars and trucks drove into snow and got stuck. Times like these show the real impact of natural disasters on daily life.

  8. 79, the snow didnt stop for a month, and then it was below zero for another month, nothing moved, I had snow walls over 6 feet high to get into my shop. Jane Byrne did that famous ad on the L when it started up again. Side streets were a mess for months. Good times, but also a striking example of the endurance required in natural disasters.

  9. I remember that 68 snow storm. We were jumping out of the window into the snow from the second floor. Its amazing how natural disasters can turn into adventurous memories.

  10. This is nothing compared to storms in the 80s and 90s. Its called winter, but also a reminder of the enduring challenge of natural disasters.
