An alternative course of action for the IT guy was to get the supervisor's bosses to actually watch OP do the code upgrades on the rest of the machines. Since there were more than one to do it on, the Supervisor would not be able to weasel out of doing his fair share and would prove he couldnt do it on his own.
Sure, it may not have worked out that way and ruined the revenge opportunity, but i think it would be worth trying to prove it.
