FEZ, MOROCCO – Welcome to the incredible city of Fez (Fes), Morocco – and one of the most fascinating and delicious food cities in all of Morocco. Today we’re eating everything from a homestyle breakfast to Moroccan street food to a huge dinner fit for a Sultan.

Breakfast at Riad Jardin Chrifa – We started with an excellent local, homestyle breakfast, in a Fez courtyard at Riad Jardin Chrifa. I can’t get enough preserved beef and eggs, without a doubt one of the best breakfast you can eat in Morocco.
Fez street food tour – After breakfast we set out to explore the narrow streets of Fez. Again, it’s an absolutely fascinating city, with history and delicious food. To navigate the tiny lanes we had the help of Fatima, from Moroccan Food Tour. We tried some local medicinal honey, cactus fruit, but by far my favorite – a legendary stall in the old lanes serving steamed beef and steamed chicken with vermicelli. That stall alone is worth visiting Fez for!
Riad Dar Chrifa (https://maps.app.goo.gl/TD74Dc74DLvJ3YNT9) – For dinner, and actually this is the place where we spent the night, our host family prepared one of the most elaborate Moroccan feasts I’ve ever experiences. We started with the classic Moroccan salads, before moving on to a giant chicken and egg nest platter with four chicken and with a sauce that melted in your mouth. Next we had a lamb shank platter with nuts and fruits that was spectacular. One thing I’ve learned in Morocco is that food is delicious, but nothing compares to home cooked meals.

ما يميز المغرب هو ثراته وحضارته العريقة وأطباق مميزة وججد لذيذة لن تجدها في أي مكان آخر، وأيضا يتسم بتنوع طبيعته المختلفة: صحراء، ثلوج، غابات، مروج، حقول شاسعة، سهول، جبال، وما يشد انتباهك هو أن كل مدينة لها طابعها الخاص ولا تشبه أي مدينة اخرى، بالإضافة إلى شطئانه الممتدة عبر البحر الأبيض المتوسط في الشمال الذي يتقاطع مع المحيط الأطلسي في الغرب.
وفي القرون الوسطى كانت تعتبر العاصمة العلمية حيث توجد بها أقدم جامعة في العالم تسمى جامعة القرويين وكان يأتيها طلاب العلم من عدة دول مختلفة خاصة الدول الأوروبية بحكم التقارب الجغرافي بيننا وبينهم حيث كان يدرس فيها الطلاب الطب، الهندسة المعمارية والفلاحية، الرياضيات، علوم الفلك…بالإضافة إلى مدارس أخرى كمدرسة البوعنانية ومدرسة الشراطين حيث يوجد بها غرف لإقامة الطلاب. وكانت مدينة مكتفية بذاتها إن هي أغلقت ابواب أسوارها الشامخة فبداخلها سيجد سكانها كل شيء وحكمة السكان القدماء هو دروبها الضيقة التي هي عبارة عن متاهة يصعب الخروج منها العدو ان هو تجرأ ودخلها. وانت تججول عبر ممراتها الملتوية سيتهيأ لك بأن منازلها بسيطة جدا لكن إن دخلتها ستجد معظمها عبارة عن قصر وجدرانها وأبوايها منقوشة ومزخرفة ولا يمكن ان ننسى الفسيفساء الفاسي وهو عبارة عن زليج الذي يغطي جدرانها بأشكال هندسية جد معقدة ولن تجده صناعته في اي مكان آخر في العالم إلا بمدينة فاس وهو عبارة عن puzzle التي تترابط وتتناغم فيما بينها لتعطينا تحفة فنية ليس لها نظير.
