Re: The mother of the Downs Syndrome girl.. I'm certainly not excusing the mother's criminal neglect, but I'm wondering if there was more to the story. Why/how did she insist that the child's father stay away? Also, did any of her visiting relatives actually offer any proactive help in raising these children with special needs? Seems to me they would drop in just to assess the situation and point fingers at the mother. I'm sure she would have welcomed some respite relief for child care if it was offered, as she surely had her hands full. Also, if the child cleaned up well enough to fool the visiting doctor & social workers, the conditions couldn't have been that bad. (I'm just thinking outside the box here, from a different angle. That story left me with lots of questions.) Anyway, great compilation, Disturban!
