60 Mind-Blowing Harry Potter Plot Holes (MEGA COMPILATION)
Spread The Viralist

Welcome to a SPECIAL episode of Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be going back and taking a look at 60 Harry Potter Plot Holes discussed on the channel over the last few years. I’ve cut some out for an even 60, so please be aware of some inconsistent numbering. Also, I’ve tried my best to level out the audio across the videos, but in some instances there is a bit of variation.

Without further ado, let’s dive in.

  1. One thing that always bugged me is dumbdores flagrant use of magic in the very beginning and the rules about using magic infront of muggles. I always presumed it was masquerade rules, as long as nobody sees it and witnesses the effect of the spell well enough to see the "magic" happen, then it doesn't matter to the ministry. Lumos for example, is just a light. There's not really any reason to assume a stationary flashing light is magic unless you see it at the end of a wand. so while Harry is using lumos in his room, even if someone could see its light from the window, nobody would be any the wiser.

What I always found odd, is that in the reverse of this, the first thing we ever see Dumbledore do is use his little lighter trick to suck the lights from the street lamps on the path to Harry's house. The lights don't just go out, they travel as what looks like floating ball of luminous plasma straight into the gizmo in dumbledores hand. They move very fast as well and street lamps are quite bright, and since it happens more than 3 times, I'd have to imagine at least one neighbor might notice the extremely bright strobes flying past their house if they were awake.

You could say that the rule doesn't apply to Dumbledore since he's an adult and the head of hogwarts, so he probably gets a pass on the grounds that it be viewed as necessary and appropriate use in the discretion of what is basically one of the most respected wizards of all time. Sure. But why not just teleport inside his house and teleport him to hogwarts? We know wizards can teleport inside buildings, since Harry even does it on accident later when he mispronounces "diagon alley."

  2. The philosophers stone was keeping nicolas flamel alive. Dumbledore at first did not want to resort to killing someone by destroying it unless he absolutely had to. Look how easily voldemort can corrupt the ministry.. the castle was the best place for it in the meantime.

(Edit) i just heard the key plot hole and that was just a movie error. Now I click away knowing this video is dumb

  3. It is, as far as I remeber, never said in the books, that Colin´s camera is a muggle-camera. But even if so, it is said, that muggle tech like electricity does not funktion at Hogwarts…but a camera like the one Colin uses is simple chemistry.

  4. On Colin's camera: Old cameras work by a basic chemical reaction. The lens focuses light on to the film, and the silver in the film reacts. If the magic affected the camera, then potions wouldn't work either. Or any other normal chemical reaction. Tou wouldn't even need to polish any sort of metal, because it would never oxidize.

  5. Number 2 is easily explained, Snape lived next to them, and Lily could do magic because of that.
#3. Dumbledore knew about the chamber he couldn't get in, he doesn't speak parsol tongue.
#6. Of course, they have flew powder.
#8. Charlie got gifted a new wand by his employer it was said that Charlie's wand wasnt that good for him either.
#9. He might have just left it in there to help the one kid that was smart enough to grab a worn book instead of a new one.
Scabers, i will say that the muraders map only reveals people that know that have that form.
Locks, magic has levels, different levels of skill with that spell or different spells in that skill tree.
The twins getting the map, they were related to the owners of it so they probably got told about it.
Why he didn't "call" Serious, he had been proven his visions right by him being right about Ron's dad being attacked.
McGonagall, she also looks older the a witch at her age if she never went back in time, she was technically as old or older then Dumbledore.
Dementors, Harry was not experiencing his torment he had Voldemrot in him and that piece of him was what was being attacked.
Truth serum, it would be too invasive, you could ask anything once they took it and people would abuse it.
Wizard money and Wizard economy, some things aren't so simple to make and if something has to be made by hand then it would be more expensive.
Secret Keeper's, a Secret Keeper cant be the paty that is hiding, that would negate the magic of a person using ones magic to hide another.
Portraits, Magic paintings are like any other magic, it all depends on who does the spell and how much magic they put into it, it is also said multiple times that the Headmaster paintings were made in a particular way to keep memories from them in the paintings, my thoughts on this part would be that a Wizard is able to take their memories before death and adding them to the paint they use.
Wizard wealth, it is made clear you cant make something out of nothing, it would also help to remember that magic isn't universal, just because you can do magic doesn't mean you can do all magic.
Magic language classes, you could just contribute this to a worldwide spell of universal language.
The stone being destroyed, it wasn't destroyed, it was used several times and never said that it was, the fact everyone was healed from the petrafacation from the Baselisk.
Harrys lock on Hedwigs cage, it is obvious that he put a lock spell on it so his crule family couldn't harm his owl.
Basilisk venom and Harry's horcux not dieing, it only makes sense that its because he didn't die and the tear from the phenox healed both.
The broken wand problem with ron and Hagrid, i would like to point out that Dumbledore had the Elder wand and he would have repaired it for him without being asked, he couldn't do that for Ron or that would have told the world he had the Elder wand for that isnt normally able to be done by normal means.
Not hearing the hissing in the walls, it is easily explained by his mental connection with any snake, he was hearing it in his head not in the air with his ears.
Time Turner's, McGonagall sean herself in Hermione and gave her the time turner, she also gave her the same one she used way back when to help Dumbledore.

  6. no language subjet sure… but NO SCIENCE? NO BIOLOGY OR CHEMISTRY? That'd be essential for the further understanding of magical subjects (and careers like healers smh), like how arithmancy helps transfiguration

  7. Vows are two way. If Voldemorte failed to live up to some quality, he would die. I really doubt he would want to be locked into a contract. Look at Dumbledore and Grindewald's love pact. It affects both of them.

  8. Here’s one I never understood, maybe someone can explain.
Hermione left clothes out for the house elves to try and set them free, but she wasn’t their master, so how would that work ?

  9. i have a feeling that the unlocking charm. is not ment to be used to much in the magical world but instead in the muggle world. because any place in the magical world thats worth using that charm on most likely has high end locks/charms on the door to prevent that first year spell.

  10. One smaller thing I noticed a few days ago when listening to the Audiobook of Prisoner of Askaban:

Its a little bit weird that Cornelius Fudge is only furious about the fact that Buckbeak escaped after Sirius escaped as well. In the moment Harry wakes up in the hospital Buckbeak already escaped. Shouldn't be Fudge more furious then ? Instead he seemed calm.

  11. About the hagrid and Sirius one. Sirius went after pettigrew after he gave Harry to hagrid. At that point no one thought Sirius was a traitor. And dumbles didn’t know the secret keepers were switched at that point

  12. About plot hole 10, Voldemort was scared to come to the ministry, he needed Harry to come because prophecies can be retrieved only by those about whom they are made. As for why he came even after the prophecy got destroyed, I don't know if there is any particular reason behind it or just another chance to kill Harry that lured him there.

  13. Most of these 'plot holes' are easily explained but my favourite is the one about colins camera. It is not all tech that wont work at hogwarts but more specifically the electronics that go haywire due to all the magic around…colins camera is an older analog camera….no electronics to go haywire so it would easily work.

  14. Dumbledore not asking about Black is propably because it all happened in like just a short time. I am not sure if it was even known that "he" was the the one teliing where the Potters where and "killing" Peter and the muggles,

Werwolf cubs are not human. They get born if two werwolfes mate while turned and they normal wolfes with a higher intelligence. Simmilar to Kneezels being smarter cats.

Charlies Wand: Charlie probably just got a new one, which might fit better to him. Maybe even harvested his own dragonheartstring which gives him an even stronger connection. And yes, the wand chooses the wizzard/witch but he could also saw Ron as an equal.

Voldemort in the ministry: I think it is just Voldemorts arroganz. Killin Harry there? Why not take the chance.

Peter not on the Map: I am 100% the marauders are not visible on it. And Harry only saw Peter in the movie on it, not in the book.

Collins Camera: Maybe enchanted but maybe it is just a to old one to be affected.

How the twins get into the map: The map is knowingly sentient. It noticed F&G potential as pranksters and saw them as worthy to know its secret and showed them how it works.

McGonnegals age: This is not a Plothole. Its just the movie wanting to add fanservice with including her without looking at canon dates.

Sirius and polyjuice: Brewing it is hard and needs 1 month and very rare and expensive ingredients. Not worth if you can transform into a dog.

Lilly and James not being their own secret keepers: I guess if something happens noone would be able to find them to help.

Traps where solveable: Indeed they where. Quirrel was supposed to get to the mirror. He would be never able to get the stone but lost himself in the thought to get it. He would stuck in the room till his body wouldnt be able to hold Voldemort anymore or someone like Dumbledore would cought him and get him to Azkaban/whatever.

  15. I had always thought Harry could see the thestrals since Voldemort killed his mum right in front of him when he was a baby. Never thought it was because of Cedric’s death.

  16. I don't think The Half Blood Prince's potions textbook is a plothole. It always made perfect sense to me that Snape was so poor he had to use the School textbooks since he couldn't afford his own. He was so passionate about potions that the book they lent him, he scribbled all over and even signed with his pseudonym, but ultimately he had to return it to the school.

  17. The Bascilisc ate house elves. Think anyone would notice if a couple went missing from the army they have working? I don't 🤷🏼🤣🤣

  18. Sirius remained in azkaban until fudge went to see the prison. Fudge has a copy of the daily prophet which should the weaselys on holiday in egypt (a trip the won) and in the picture with ron was scabbers who sirius immediately recognized as wormtail. Thats when he decided to break out

  19. For the sirius polyjuice theory: first it takes about a month to produce and most often sirius acted for instant gratification. He was impatient and decided things on a whim. Also, though it was easy for the trio to make in COS, they had the advantage of having most of the ingredients readily available and stole the rest. How was sirius supposed to get ingredients when he was confined at home and others didnt want him out so they wouldnt help him

  20. Ron could have had charlies old wand. Ron didnt need a wand until after charlie graduated, by then charlie could have bought his own new wand and gave his brother his old one. Neville also was handed down his fathers wand

  21. The thestral thing shows how willing JK is to come up with all kinds of bullshit on the fly to weasel herself out. If i was an author i would just admit that it makes no sense but to start a new "feature" near the end of an episode would be off from a stylistic point of view.
