How To Identify Some of the Elephants in the Rescued Herd

How To Identify Some of the Elephants in the Rescued Herd
Spread The Viralist

We have had a lot of questions about how to identify the individual elephants in the Jabulani herd. 🧡

We will be helping you to learn to recognise the elephants based on key characteristics in the next few videos and posts. We hope it helps — practice makes perfect. It took all of us time, but eventually by knowing what to look at, you too can start to recognise the elephants you have come to know and love.

The best features to look for are tusks and ears, which tend to have very distinct looks. As you get better at identifying the elephants, you can also look at their faces and heads. If you really want to challenge yourself, you can look at their body shapes and sizes.

  1. OMG 😱 THANK YOU FOR THIS! I was constantly wondering how you guys tell them apart. And thank you for sharing the world of these wonderful elephants. I LOVE 💕 THEM

  2. Loved the video half way through when the herd were gathered, standing quietly. Beautiful Setombe standing centre with the babies, flanked by Mambo & Kumbura (Phabeni tucked in under caring Khanyisa's trunk!). Very serene, quiet & beautiful moment 🥰🙏❤️🐘

  3. 14:30 Why were all the beautiful ellies gathered around in a circle like this – were they nervous over a rainstorm that was rolling in, or did they smell uninvited animals in the area? It seems like they were nervous over something and sort of circling around to protect the young ellies. (I am always in awe of how brave and dedicated the matriarchs and the bulls are when it comes to making sure the herd is safe, but especially their young. Humans really could learn SO much from these gorgeous, majestic elephants.)

  4. This was so so helpful! Thank you carers for taking the time to make this video for us! I am so excited to be able to start recognizing some of them!!!

  5. Sweet Pinky Khanysia is definitely getting so big and she definitely also has long legs too.❤️🙏🐘. It’s so cute and nice that she is being such a great big sister to Phabeni too and also watching over him too.❤️🐘🐘. The whole Herd family are always so up on making sure that this little one is safe and always with them too which I think is so cool.❤️🥰🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘. It was wonderful to get to see Jabulani and Fishon too and it looked like they were either sparing or just having a little play time too. I love these educational video where you describe the instinctive patterns of each elephants ear flaps and their size too. I was curious to know about some of the females tail hair in that, is it normal for them to have either very little hair or no lair on their tails or are they low on a certain vitamin? If I may ask, how often do you have their bloodwork done to check their numbers to make sure they are still where they should be or do you just wait until they are sickly and then do something about it? I think they should be kept an eye on by blood work at least monthly if possible so you can stay up on their health. Thank you and hope you all have had a great day and have an awesome night too. Hugs love and blessings to all the elephants always! Sue M. Florida,USA🙏🥰❤️😘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘✝️🌸🌼😎🤔❌⭕️

  6. Wonderful helpful information for us. Beautiful animals all resemble each other but yet have thier special stuff (😅) to recognize them for them. I have a special place in my heart for all the elephant's and carers. Bubi is my favorite. I absolutely ❤ her. Can't say why….just something there. Take care all !!!

  7. Phabeni is such a little toot! I realized that I expected him to be exactly like Khanyisa since she was the first youngster I’d seen. He’s definitely a little tease and has such a confident outlook. I’m also excited to notice the foot behavior that we learned about in an earlier video: both Bubi and Khanyisa displayed it while Phabeni was drinking. This is such a helpful video, thank you!

  8. Just so wonderful that they are always together, want to be together and an incredible family bond. There's no leash that makes them stay. They WANT to be together so much. It's truly MORE than a regular family. Inexplainable. Just plain Love.

  9. I think when you see how different they all are, when you point out and put the names on it. I already forgot some it's like a language you need to be with them and see them every day I know a couple that I know the names off like Khayanisa and phabeni 😂 …but I will learn it mabe not all but I do my best ❤ they so impressive so beautiful 🐘 thank you for the explanation 🤗🐘💞🫶

  10. Thank you so much to have this Herd come to you Adine and Carers so they have a wonderfil life and a safe place Home Stead 10 stars and a place for medical clinic for the little ones and need by help the Herd

  11. This was such a marvelous video. There were so many things to pick up on. Starting at 12: 23 we see Khanyisa utterly enraptured with Phabeni, as if in a trance. Lundi and Mambo were together foraging. The affectionate sparring between Jabu and Fishan was extraordinary! Kumbura nudging Klaserie was cute. And Setombe, who looked a bit tired, gave her beloved daughter a hug. Setombe is really showing her stuff in a very quiet and gentle way. Tokwe might be a bit sullen, but she and Lundi are being very respectful of Setombe and accepting of her new undertaking!

  12. I was so focused on little Phabeni being stubborn about his bottle, i missed everything about the Elephant markings. That was funny. Reminded me of my little brother!

  13. I’m so glad this video was made because I always wondered how to tell them apart. I knew Khaniysa, Phabeni apart. I knew Lundi because she has a W shaped tear in her ear with a piece hanging off. I love the whole HERD family❤ I also can spot Fishan because of his leg injury.

  14. I thought in the beginning I would do ok remembering all the hints Lundi has tears, someone has a triangle but then another had a triangle 😂 yeah I am lost after the easy ones the youngsters. This was fun and thanks for all the work you did for us 🙏🏼

  15. definitely easier to see who is who. love to watch them walking its an incredible sight but also so majestic. little phabeni has really adjusted quickly
to being part of the herd it has to be very fullfilling
    for everyone to see this:)
