They were hauling 3200 gallons of #1 heading oil to the village of Kobuk. Tragic loss for the families and all of Alaska. RIP
At 07:12 min the left aileron or flap seems to fall off the plane.
Never saw such a hefty explosion on a failing aircraft radial. They tend to bang and sputter when malfunctioning, yes, and backfires may be harsh but this was brutal.
Salmon? Do you mean Sierra?
Tragic. R.I.P.
ty, jb…sadness here
The DC4 is all cable controls, via trim tabs. So hydraulics and electrics are not required to control and fly the aircraft.
Possible reasons for an immediate lost of control, might include a prop stuck in fine pitch.

My uncle was on the plain with partner ray and my uncle named john
We pilots need to stop flying this WW2 antique junk doing high risk flights. If the vendor delivering fuel can't afford a turbine or jet platform. Have the government deliver fuel.
I suspect there was no onboard CVR or FDR. 😢
Good morning Juan. Sad story for those guys…… Knew of them met owner. Question, has there been any information on Race 86 Checkmate……???? No one seems to be talking. Suspect a hold up with engine O/H……????? Thanks.
Looks like the explosion destroyed all control surfaces on that wing so low to the ground they had no time to do anything so tragic condolences to all friends and family of the lost crew 😢🙏
My buddy recorded their takeoff and sent it to me shortly after they crashed
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 … 7:18 …after the explosion the plane was uncontrollable probably because of the damage inflicted to the connection rods…🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Wow! I see this plane every day when I drive past Wasilla airport. I saw them placing flowers and wondered why I haven't seen it for a few days. So sad.
Amazing that they are using 80 year old aircraft
May God comfort the families of the two. My sincerest condolences.
Those poor guys man. I can imagine what they were thinking just before the accident. Sad situation
Problem with very rough area, nowhere is highly survivable at over 100 mph. Probably routine till it wasn't, second after going bad.

Time to stop flying these old planes.
