  1. I bet you were CPU bottlenecked. Anyway, to play the latest titles, the Nvidia 80 class GPUs are designed for 1440P Ultra settings. For 4k display, you need a 90 class Nvidia GPU. You are saying that you want an average mid class PC. Well… average mid class PC do NOT play at 4k!! With 4080 Super, You will need to downset your graphics to medium. Thanks to VRAM limitation. With AMD GPU, you dont have the VRAM limitation BUT because of the poor upscaling / retracing feature, the overall graphic quality is not really in par with your expectations. My suggestion is to play games at 1440p. Then your 4080 Super will be great!

  2. Turn your Anisotropy/Anti-aliasing setting down to 2x or off. Your already playing at 4K you shouldn't see many jagged edges at that resolution.

  3. One thing you have to learn about the PC community and new hardware is that you could have a low to mid range system and be more satisfied than a person with a high end system. I would advise anyone to look at the console equivalent of a PC GPU and judge that based on the display you want to game on.

I remember a guy buying a 4090 for $3K when it came out, people who spend too much money on the high end have to brag to justify their purchase. All they are doing is chasing a high. That's why people rather get their 4090s secretly fixed when they burn out instead of getting together and making a class action lawsuit against Nvidia.

  4. I have a question for you. I want to upgrade my gpu to a 5060 ti or 5070 when they are available. My problem is that my cpu will definitely bottleneck a high performing card like that by around 30-50%, based on how powerful it might be. I wouldn’t be able to afford to buy the gpu and a new cpu at the same time and would probably need to wait until early 2026 to upgrade my cpu. My question is, would it be worth it to upgrade my gpu if the bottleneck is going to be that bad for the first year? Right now I’m running a 4060, which is fine until I upgrade, but I want to switch to something where I’ll be good for another 4-6 years running games at max at 1440p. Thanks in advance.

  5. We 80 series brothers
    we don't go any higher
cus the 4090 catches on fire

Congrats to the new addition to the 4080 gang 👏 🎉

  6. It’s a 4080 at a better price. Nothing misleading about it. AD-103 die was already essentially maxed out with cudas there wasn’t much more room for improvement.

  7. i totally agree with you these upgrades from the 1080ti and up aren't really big huge grains, i mean the 1080ti was the bread and butter of all new gaming experience, but the costs out of control no one be paying more the 500 for a 4090 or any GPU, but the mining and NVIDIAS mining camps costed the us gamers a conditioning of high priced over prices GPUs

  8. Hey Frog, i have the belief now that 4K is just nonsense to chase it for now at least cause no GPU for now can fulfill the real 4k with a decent amount of performance, so i believe that 2k is still the sweet spot for image quality and the performance at the same time

  9. To me 4K cards start at the 7900XT. Sure the 4070ti Super is only a hair behind but the expectation for most people buying them would be to regularly use ray tracing, so it’s better thought of as a 1440p light-RT card.

And I’d really stick the 4080 in that camp too. Either 4K raster or 1440p light-medium RT.

Even the 4090 isn’t a 4K RT card. Sure there are a few games that present a light enough RT load that it can handle it. But heavier loads or path tracing and the 4090 becomes a 1440p card too. Just have to have that DLSS to output 4K. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, it just is what it is.

  10. Forza has a setting called MSAA which basically supersamples a higher resolution which is very taxing. If you have that in at 4k it will destroy your fps

  11. Biggest take away is: think for yourself and follow common sense. I have 3080Ti and 4080 Super and difference between them is mediocre at best. And since i don't play benchmarks then my advice is if you're happy with your GPU skip this pointless rat race of constant cycle of upgrades. We are already way beyond Moore's Law era where each generation was a big gap to justify price tag. Since 1080Ti era i see only pile of junk. And fact that games nowadays are hot garbage that are made by devs that no longer care about upping their skills. So we end up with mediocre tech, DEI/ESG agenda coated as games, and price jumps that can no longer justify quality that it should follow. Sorry, but at some point you have to ask yourself that question. Do i upgrade because i need to stay relevant or i upgrade because i want. Keep common sense above social pressure.

  12. All that hardware doesn't seem worth considering this is 2024 and our video games these days are absolutely struggling to hit a consistent 60fps. Even games that were built for old hardware runs like dog crap on new hardware with multiple performance modes! Think about that for a sec a last gen game that gets a native current gen upgrade struggles to achieve or even tip 60fps. The issue is the Developers and the developers alone nobody or nothing else is to blame. Developers are not utilizing features or the hardware the correct way. If a game from scratch is going to target 60 fps why wouldn't you build your systems and everything to make sure your game runs an absolute consistent 60fps. Why release it with the frames all over the place? Developers need to start actually putting in the work to get 60 from hardware that should be putting out 260fps easy

  13. How did I come across your channel ? I liked this video where you showed how badly the FG works in Alan Wake2 . I think it was a cool idea and concept for the channel. Nvidia is praised everywhere , it is said that the drivers for Radon are weak. I have an AMD and Nvidia card and I don't think so at all. I think showing that something works badly on nvdia is good for your channel .

  14. Yeah man in my opinion upgrading every generation is a waste of money in my opinion I am still running a 3080 sure some games I have to turn off ray tracing if I want high frame rates but depending on the price of the 5000 series I will upgrade then

  15. Im waiting for Battlemage GPU and Arrowlake CPU. Don't care if it's not a high end build. As long as i get 1440p with above 60 frames playing Star Citizen that will be my dream. Im supporting and going team blue for my PC mid range build.

  16. The big reason to go nvidia over AMD is RT, DLSS, driver stability and the nvidia software suite in general. You've stated you're fine with FSR; I find the temporal stability issues particularly off putting. You are fine with AFMF which felt awful to me. It may be that these advantages aren't something you're sensitive to / care about.

I have a 4080, but I'm not for either MFG (tried an XTX first). I just like playing games, in the footage you've posted something looks like it's holding the 4080S back a lot of the time. I don't know if it's the CPU or if you're experiencing some other issue; but I can tell you the 4080S should not be dipping down in to the low usage numbers – if that happens you're going to have a bad time with any GPU. You might be able to use something like latencymon to see what driver is choking in those instances. I assume you've already tried DDU and the usual stuff.

I'd get a handle on the performance problems before making any final assessment.

  17. I love my 7900XT. Overclocked to 3168 on the core and 2718 on the memory using fast timings. Handles any game ive thrown at it sofar at 3840×1620

  18. My am5 build cost $2900 Cad with the 7800xt and 7800x3d. I get solid proformance at 1440p. The 7800xt was $800 Cad as a refernence point.

  19. High end has diminishing returns around the $700-$1000 point. They have their advantages but are also CPU limited. As a starter I agree you should start mid range and get a feel for it then upgrade to high end whenever you’re ready to make that step. I play at 1440p Ultrawide so I want something to drive it without needing to upgrade very frequently. I think you should gague what GPU you need based off of your monitor and cpu. When I got my XTX on my 5950x build I was cpu bottlenecked until I decided to go for a whole new build around the 7800X3D and it brought things back in order. AMD gpus are better for older CPUs but Nvidia GPUs like more modern CPU architectures to get the full power of their gpus. I think the high end cards will feel better whenever you decide to upgrade everything around them. But of course only do so within your means. A 7600x should be able to drive it just fine. PC gaming isn’t a cheap hobby compared to consoles which are a buy and don’t worry about experience and it’s up to you on how much you’d want to invest. Mid range is also a fun place because it’s so competitive. Lower midrange is boring cause the cards are just so gimped to make you go for the 4070 or the 7700/7800 XT. AMD could do so much better if they didn’t try to pull the upsell tactics like Nvidia does.

  20. Nah Andrew, for gaming the 5800X3D is often on par with the 7900X, yeah you lose production performance for video editing etc, but can gain close to 7900X gaming performance.
Anywhere between 5-25% depending on the game, not bad for a $300-350 part when compared to the cost of upgrading Mobo, RAM AND CPU for what? $1200-1300.
You could go for the 5950X3D but because the infinity cache is only on one CCD if the CPU uses the wrong threads you end up with worse gaming performance than a 5700X.
For me the upgrade to AM5 makes little sense atm, so I'm waiting for Zen 5 or maybe even Zen 6 to arrive…

  21. Unless you feel like lassoing every single process to its desired ccd, I highly discourage a 7900x3d or 7950x3d. Knowing your desire to just play games without messing around, I feel like you'd be frustrated in 10 minutes having to do that. Just get the 7800x3d or a non 3d chip those are really the only options to consider.

  22. High-end PC gaming absolutely has diminishing returns. It’s cool and all if you just have so much money you don't care about price but in the end, is the juice really worth the squeeze…..not really in my opinion lol

  23. I don't think your 5900x is holding it back much. Sure if you're talking about like cpu bound games like DOTA 2, Overwatch 2 and Valorant then it is holding you back from 400+ fps. Poor guy only getting 300 or so, lol. Like if go spend money on a ryzen 7000 platform and get a 7900x3d or 7800x3d, that's like $600-$800 and you might get 25 – 30 more fps in gpu bound games you're already getting 120-150 fps in. It's not worth it imo, it's not like you have a 3700x.

  24. I have a 5900x and 4090. Got 4090 for 1.5-1.6k it’s expensive ya but blows other cards out of the water. Honestly this gen sucks. It’s pretty much 4090 or nothing especially 4K. Unfortunately there was no good budget or value for $$ like the 3080 was. I don’t upgrade every gen and honestly it’s insane on performance a real gen leap just expensive but I don’t regret the purchase because the performance is unreal. Down line I’ll upgrade cpu keep gpu longer but 4K 4090 dosnt really bottleneck. I got the msi version that uses less whatts and it’s been amazing

  25. Thanks for the great video and honest opinion bud.

I went with the 7900XTX a couple of months ago and I'm extremely happy to have made the jump to AMD.

My original CPU was faulty so the company I bought my parts from gave me a full refund on the CPU and I upgraded to the 7800X3D about two months ago.

    My build :
    Radeon 7900XTX
    Ryzen 7 7800X3D
    AM5 DDR5 32GB 6000 MHZ EXPO Ram
    Dell G3223Q 4k 144hz IPS monitor.

All I can say is WOW the 7900XTX combined with the 7800X3D is an excellent 4k build in my opinion! extremely happy to have gone with the AMD route and that probably would have never happened if I haven't stumbled upon you channel Frogboy! thank you bud! Shoutout from South Africa !

  26. You’re finally making sense when you keep up grading for very little in return stop wasting your money 💴 enjoy what you got and work with it . Grass is not greener on other side great videos
