When the lion approached the buffalo herd, the herd became alert. They often form a protective circle around vulnerable members of the herd, such as calves. Initially, the buffalo may try to intimidate the lion by making loud noises, stomping their feet, and displaying aggressive behavior. If the lion continues, one or more buffaloes may rush straight at the lion. A charging buffalo can reach speeds of up to 35 mph (56 km/h). The confrontation is usually aimed at defending themselves from the lion using their sharp, curved horns. While charging, the buffalo lowers its head to bring its horns into impact position. The buffalo’s horns are extremely powerful and can cause severe injuries. A well-placed strike can puncture the lion’s body, causing deep wounds that can be fatal. Afterward, the buffalo can use its large body weight to subdue the lion. This forceful action can break bones, damage internal organs, and render the lion even more vulnerable. Buffaloes often act in coordination. While one buffalo charges and attacks, others may join in, either by charging or surrounding the lion to prevent escape. Their collective mindset and defense strategies enhance the effectiveness of their actions.

  1. Fortunately, we humans have advanced to the point where we rarely ever have to worry about predators. There are many large animals that could easily kill and eat us but they are usually only a threat if we deliberately do something stupid. There just aren't any other animals that can kill from over a mile away.

  2. This animal documentary is a great educational resource. It offers valuable insights into the behaviors and survival strategies of wild animals.

  3. The footage caught on camera in this video is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s a stark reminder of the brutal realities of the wild.
