  1. if he had of just taken off from Burlington and flown a standard flight he'd be alive now. I've got no problem with that.

I do have a problem with a 90 year old with hip replacements stunt flying in a 60 year old plane unsuitable for the stunt.

This guy spent his whole life (and I mean WHOLE life) following orders and rules and regulations. This may have been the first time he deviated, obviously performing the stunt for an audience.

Sad, now young'ns will look at his iconic photo from space and instead of wonder and awe they'll say "hey, wasn't that taken by some old fart who crash an old plane into the ground for no reason?"

90 years of risk/reward comes to an end. Sad way to end an otherwise blessed life.

  2. As a boy of 10 in England who avidly followed all the manned space missions, I heard Apollo 8's Christmas message to humanity live on TV. It was the most sublime moment of NASA's most audacious mission. Every time I hear that recording, I feel pride for what humans can achieve if they work together towards a common goal, and nostalgia for that great era.
Major General Anders, I salute you.
    Per aspera ad astra.

  3. For the information of those following this incident, the T-34 was the subject of an Airworthiness Directive (AD (2000-CE-09-AD) in 2000 for wing spar cracking. Even after complying with this AD by instaling a spar strap, aerobatics in these aircraft would not be a good idea. My aircraft is not a T-34 and aerobatics are not permitted, so I don't.
