He was most likely put in a small cage all his life. There was a study where they let bear out of cages and put em in the wild. When they came back to check up on them they were all just walking in circles repeatedly
It's called "kennel crazy". Happens sometimes with long term caging. It takes time and patience….
Check his mental state. Dogs can get dementia.

He must be from a working line of gsd's. They need so much mental stimulation compared to other breeds. I can't imagine how crazy being so confined would have made him.

Remind me of ponies that have been on a carousel Ride too long they only know to go into circles so that would make me think that this dog's been in a pen are small cage too long and that's all he knows is to go in circles a rehab dogs like this before it just takes time you more or less have to retrain your brain into knowing that they can go straight and not have to do circles all the time

Poor boy stressed to death,thats what our boy was like,6 months later,what change in him chased his cuddle buddy,balls never chased not even 4 years later.e loved chasing spotty dog,that was his cuddle buddy.

My mother and I went on a road trip not long ago. Passed a house that had a German shepherd chained in the front yard. It had made a perfect circle in the grass from pacing nonstop. That and this dog’s actions are from not enough physical activity. Dogs need to run and play. Not be confined. Seems like this one has been spinning around in a crate trying to get comfortable
