This week is Orangutan Caring Week! The theme for this year is ‘Orangutan Superheroes Don’t Wear Capes.’ This incredible video captures some of these heroes in action as they work to protect orangutans.

The BKSDA’s Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) and our partners, IAR Indonesia, go above and beyond to ensure that every rescue goes as smoothly as possible.

Earlier this month, the WRU evacuated a male infant orangutan called Mawa from a village. They were supported by IAR Indonesia and the Palung Foundation. Mawa had been found by a local resident, and despite best efforts to locate his mother, she could not be found. The villagers did the right thing and contacted the West Kalimantan BKSDA, who arrived alongside our partners to conduct the rescue.

Estimated to be only a year old, Mawa was found to be malnourished and is now being treated by the true heroes at the IAR Indonesia rescue center. This incredible team consists of expert veterinarians and keepers, who are committed to delivering the highest quality care to rescued orangutans just like Mawa.

Orangutans play a crucial role in the biodiverse ecosystems they call home. By protecting these orangutans, the BKSDA and IAR Indonesia also ensure biodiversity stays intact.

Next month will see world leaders come together for COP15, where they will discuss policies that will prevent biodiversity loss. We are hopeful there is still time to build a positive future for species all over this beautiful planet.

Sign our open letter to world leaders that urges them to take action and make positive changes at COP15. Together, WE can make a stand for biodiversity. https://www.internationalanimalrescue.org/cop15
