PENANG, MALAYSIA – Welcome to Penang, one of the ultimate food destinations in Malaysia and the world. In this northern state of Malaysia you will find street food everywhere you look and today we’re going on a tour to eat 5 of the best Malaysian street food delicacies you don’t want to miss in Penang!

1. Ali Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang (https://maps.app.goo.gl/KoTTXgXVRwfhspCp6) – We’re starting with a true taste of Malaysian food – nasi lemak. The rice is cooked with coconut milk and fragrances and served here with a variety of sambal chili sauces with a variety of proteins like hard boiled eggs, anchovies and squid. Price – 3 MYR ($0.64) per packet

2. Deens Maju Nasi Kandar (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5oxkwm6HgqtS3rZu9) – Next up on this Malaysian street food tour we’re eating what is undoubtedly one of my favorite all time meals, nasi kandar. This meal has Indian origins of a selection of rice and curry that was served to boat crews along the Penang docks. Now it’s more than a food, it’s a unique cultural blend that represents Penang, Malaysia. Price: 42.90 MYR ($9.13) for 2 plates.

3. Laksa Mamu Famous Sungai Pinang (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Svd44TrcaVR2L18SA) – You’ll find many types of laksa in Malaysia, but one of the best is Penang Laksa, sour and herbal and with a torch ginger touch. Price – 6 MYR ($1.128)

4. 888 Hokkien Mee (https://maps.app.goo.gl/yumxKtCCUM6JosKX9) – Penang has a large Chinese influence as well, and there are many Chinese influenced Malaysian street foods. Hokkien prawn noodles are very popular and that broth is loaded with the intense flavor of dried shrimp. Price – 13 MRY ($2.77) with the add-ons

Bonus: Muscle Man’s Char Koay Kak (https://maps.app.goo.gl/nbnqXhRLzp9FuhzEA) – This was a bonus, trying Muscle Man’s Char Koay Kak!

5. CHONG Charcoal Seafood Char Kuey Teow (https://maps.app.goo.gl/WVM6nUGrFgxPGgpK7) – Another dish that Penangites and Malaysians are so passionate about is char kuey teow, fried rice noodles with lard and a variety of seafood. This was one of the better plates I’ve ever had! Price – 17 MYR ($3.61)

  1. I always love when you are in the far east or in south east Asia, you really seem to be in your prime and most happy there, and your videos from this region are always your best!
    Cheers from Sweden 🙏

  2. Oh my goodness, Mark is back in PENANG my hometown! Very special indeed especially the first time I came across your channel was 9 years ago via the Restoran Tajuddin Hussain Nasi Kandar video and have subscribed ever since. Enjoy Penang buddy and if you are in KL, I'd love to host you too.

  3. mark..there is a actually 2 varieties of char kuey teow which is the chinese version that you just eat and then the malay version which has a gravy in it. there is one located right at the outskirt of mainland penang in jawi called char kuey teow wanis..definately the best malay style char kuey teow ive ever had.. you MUST try it

  4. We're in Penang right now. To us, it's the food capital of the world! Too bad it's a 12h flight away for us, but always great to be back!

  5. You got it wrong…kandar does not mean balance…imbang is balance…kandar is actually the contraption used to carry the rice and dishes…you know that bamboo pole, that is what we Malaysian call kandar and the southern parts of the peninsula , they call it gandar…

  6. My favourite is one of the most underrated dishes, koay teow thng! it’s a bowl of Koay teow soup , commonly served with chicken/ pork slices and balls or sometimes with beef. I never leave Penang without eating it. New lane hawker is our favourite haunt.
