  1. "THE BIRTH OF EXTREME IRONING"
    The true story…
I was on a particular course in the british army (summer '97) and we had to have a certain weight in our bergans to carry over the hills….

You made the weight up with essential kit, ie rations sleeping bag shelter etc etc but as the weight had to be Increased daily we looked about our accommodation for items that could add weight. (if you walked out of the billet block for any reason & walked back in again…. you would be bowled over with the stench of DeepHeat).
A mate from another unit (green beret RM) said he was gonna pack the iron…..as a laugh, I said I would strap the ironing board to my pack.

The DS the next day had a sense of humour (you needed one) allowed it to count for the total weight of my required total weight.
I carried it over the hills of Brecon – Wales for the next 14hrs….
Every check point on that day was a good giggle.

Thus the birth of Extreme Ironing..
Passed the course and the Ironing board carrying become a trademark as a moral boost!

    END.
