Today we’re going on a Malaysian food tour in Balik Pulau, on the opposite side of Penang Island from Georgetown. We’ll eat our fill of amazing Malay fish head curry and try some of the world’s best durian straight from the source.

Kim Laksa Balik Pulau (https://maps.app.goo.gl/14mNuJxTEt7k7vXY8) – First for breakfast we stopped at this historical restaurant to try two different types of laka, typical Penang sour laksa, and Siam laksa, both of which were delicious. Price – 7 MYR ($1.49) per bowl, 3 MYR ($0.64) nutmeg juice

Pak Wan Kari Sembilang Kuala Jalan Bharu (https://maps.app.goo.gl/MwFEmjDVWK4Jdevg9) – Next up on this Malaysian food tour we continued for some amazing Malay food including catfish curry. Price – 49 MYR ($10.40) for everything

Eryna Cafe Curry Claypot (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bzvrhMro3PJEMs9KA) – One of the places I was most looking forward to eating at today was Eryna for their claypot curry fish head. It was so good I wanted to drink the curry! Price – 25 MYR ($5.31) per fish head

Next I met up with my friends Lindsay and Richard (https://www.yearofthedurian.com/) durian lovers and experts. They took me on a durian tour to some of the premier durian farms in the mountains of Penang. Thanks to Nature Fruit Farm Resort and Soon Huat Durian Farm!

It was one of the best days of food in Penang, Malaysia!

  1. So basically, every restaurant you went to that was run by Muslims refused to take payment from you.
That really says something about Muslim hospitality…

  2. Hi Mark Wiens, glad that you are promoting our Malaysians food. My only concern is CAN U try Indian fish head curry, Chinese fish head curry and Malay fish head curry and let us know which is the BEST 😅😅😅

  3. so which durian is REALLY the best?? Thai or Malaysian?? I guess that depends who you ask. the Thais always say THEIR durian is the best! 😄

  4. There are many varieties of Laksa in Malaysia and different states has different add on toppings. Penang has pineapple toppings, a trade mark of Penang Laksa. If you cone to Alor Setar go for Laksa Telok Kecai, the topping will be coconut portions, There are also Laksa Ikan Sekoq (literally means a boiled whole fish, usually Indian Mackeral : Ikan kembong) as its topping.

  5. How did you upload long video sir. From Laptop computer mobile phone. When I upload long video. Video cannot upload. Please sir reply. Love from nepal. ❤ 👍🇳🇵

  6. I was lucky enough to live on Penang at Jalanbunga Rampia near George Town as a child in the early sixties. The Durian masterclass was exquisite Mark. Well done. Catfish head curry is something I remember very well. Remarkably the island has stood up well to modern life. I can't wait to go re-visit in two years time.

  7. I am from India 🇮🇳 and so want to try a Durian. I have heard so much about this fruit. Most people say that it smells and taste really bad. Some say they really like it and its flavorful and sweet . Mark seems to love Durian. Does it actually taste bad or good? I am confused.. unfortunately i don't think it is available where i live.

  8. The exaggerated/fake sound and face made me unsubscribe. A lot of people used to love this channel but it became unbearable to watch
