Typhoon Soudelor in 2015 was one of the strongest storms ever to hit Fujian Province, China. With wind gusts of up to 200 km/h, Soudelor caused a series of widespread disasters. Continuous torrential rains caused severe flooding in many areas of Fujian, rivers overflowed and floodwaters rose, sweeping away many houses and people’s properties. Thousands of houses had their roofs blown off, and old trees could not withstand the wind, were uprooted and collapsed. Streets were flooded, traffic was completely paralyzed. The chaotic situation became worse when the electricity and clean water systems were interrupted, seriously affecting the lives of millions of people. Authorities had to mobilize all resources to respond urgently, rescue people and overcome the consequences of the storm. Soudelor was not only a major natural storm but also a major test of the community’s resilience and efforts to overcome difficulties.
