I have rainbow shiners! I have them in a 270 gallon, with fancy goldfish, platys, rainbow fish, and giant danios, white cloud mountain minnows, a random swordtail, and a hillstream loach. They are gorgeous!! The males are stunning. They took a long time to grow up and start showing their colors. The males will harass the females so have a lot of places for the ladies to get away.
They are very cool for a small fish. Of all the little fish currently getting internet love these days, these are the ones that intrigue me the most. I've noticed that not only can their colors vary moment to moment, but they can vary from vendor to vendor. Some are predominantly red with blue. Some are predominantly blue with red. I was not aware of their short lifespans, though. That is definitely a check in the negative box.
Great video!! Was contemplating these guys. Thx for showing their real colors. Can you do a species profile about the Melon Barb? :))
❤❤❤
I’ve been wanting to add these to my unheated 20 long flow minnow tank. They’re so pretty I don’t understand why they’re so hard to find and why they’re so expensive.
I thought rainbow shiners were known to spawn over rock nests of a different fish so people use tubs with like a rocky crater in a way?
Overall love seeing these guys covered
Definitely need to check this species out
Apt timing. Just spotted 3 of these in my local lfs and bought them home with me. I'd've got more if they had them but sadly not. They're awesome wee fish jiggling in and out of the water flow. 2 hang out together whilst the 3rd hangs out with my golden wcmm
I would love to have a breeding population of these in our outdoor pond. But exactly how cold can they go in the winter? We dip into the 30's in the winter, and rarely it'll even get into the low 20s, but that's usually only for a very short time. The gambusia and goldfish overwinter just fine, and I've had white clouds overwinter also, but they've never bred for me inside or outside. Also, how prolific are they in a pond setting? I have had gambusia breeding in there for years, and theres a few goldfish that will produce a baby fish once in a while, but there's a lot of plant and algae cover in there for the eggs to hide in.
Looking forward to those fish being available in my country 😍
I always wanted these
Man so refreshing to hear someone being honest about the color on these fish
I currently have a group of rainbow shiner paired with a group of trout goodeids. They do very well together
Can they live with harlequien rasboras?
These could be a nice schooling fish to pair with Microctenopoma.
The man, the myth, the legend! 🏍️💪🏻🧔🏼
I was thinking about them for our future pond.
Jason it's been awhile since I last tuned in. NICE BEARD I'm jealous. Looks good man!
Sweet! Love these fish!
Jason can you put rainbow shiners with a betta
