On September 30, 2024, WBIR sent crews to Asheville to cover what happened to Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.
They spent a total of 96 hours on the ground.

I've only watched a third of this, but notice the screamingly conspicuous absence of governmental personal or support. It's all the people taking care of themselves and each other. And I also feel for the land. Imagine how many thousands of animals died in that flood. How many more are endangered by the toxicity of the water, how the land itself is endangered thus. I believe in miracles and the beautiful way that nature heals, and also whoa. People are getting chemical burns from the mud. This is the most serious thing to happen in our country for a long time.

The entire US, in fact the world, should pay attention to how the wonderful and caring people in NC are coming together and helping each other. This is not a one-day thing, it's continuing day after day after day and people are being helped in numerous ways. This video is both heart breaking at what has happened to them, but also full of the hope and caring they are giving to each other. I'm sure this same thing is going on in many other small communities that were devastated by Helene. This is how our great country was built hundreds of years ago – people helping people and doing whatever needed to be done!
This is not the first time GOD has used a flood to wash away the unclean elements of society. It breaks my heart; to see the beautiful people of Western N.C. having to pay for the sins of Asheville's seedy underbelly; most of whom are not even native to the area. And yes; these hardy Christian people will rebuild and recover. My only hope is that they will be a little more careful of who they welcome into their communities; in the future. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

Communities are supposed to come together and help each other during disasters before government assistance arrives. This is what we are supposed to do. Screaming at the government but then not paying attention to how government actually works, and celebrating being uneducated electing liars and crackpots just means it is a waste of time.

The fact that this news crew can make it to Asheville just fine, but FEMA is stating they cannot because roads are swept away is really telling.

Great job, showing how a disaster can show you what people’s real character actually is!!! When I lived in Knoxville WBIR was the only station I watched for local news, because while everyone else was happy to show all of the bad news and how terrible people are, I could always count on WBIR to show that there is also good in people and to find the angle in a news story that brings Hope! The very BEST local news station I have ever seen! Always made me feel glad and grateful to be living in East Tennessee!
Hi Abby, I myself am a hurricane survivor from the monster cat 4 hurricane Andrew way back in 1992, and the brutal cat 3 hurricane Wilma in 2005, both of them in the area of Miami-Dade county if the state of Florida. I can tell you the images shown in this video are very similar from the ones from the disaster we experienced in the aftermath of both hurricanes above mentioned. I believe everything in life happens for a reason and even though we not always understand why they happen we just have to be resilient and get the best out even of a horrifying experieince like the one you have just been through. Your community will eventually be rebuilt from the ashes and life will go back to normal, I have no doubt in my mind about that, but most imprtantly, I am pretty sure that many people up in western NC will never be the same again after such event in thier lives. My prayers and best wishes are with all of those still recovering from the damage caused by the loss of property and lives due to the impact of huricane Helene in ther communities.
Today, the President announced a $425 million security assistance package for Ukraine that includes additional air defense capability, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical munitions to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs. In the coming months, the United States will provide Ukraine with a range of additional capabilities, including hundreds of air defense interceptors, dozens of tactical air defense systems, additional artillery systems, significant quantities of ammunition, hundreds of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, and thousands of additional armored vehicles, all of which will help to equip Ukraine’s armed forces.
Allocate another $60 billion to Ukraine.
