Our Dodo Producer spent an afternoon with adoptable black cats at @NYCSecondChanceRescue to find out why it’s so hard for them to find homes — and she couldn’t think of a single reason 🖤

  1. Black cats aren’t as bad as ppl think they r pretty smart and sweet I have a fully black cat and he’s so nice he is never aggressive and he likes to start conversations with you.

  2. Me and my boyfriend got 4 cats. 3 black 1 tuxedo and especially the youngest girl (one of the black ones) can't stop following me everywhere. Constantly wanting to be pet and cuddled. The minute I sit somewhere she comes and sits on my lab and pushes her head in my hand. The other three are also very cuddly. I don't understand how people think that the colour of a cat has something to do with it's personality. Except the orange ones. We all know that some wild things are going on there😂

  3. They're sweet, affectionate, lucky and have so much personality. Be they panthers or tuxies. A black or tux is our number one pick when we're able to adopt. RN, we're just fostering to help until we can afford to fully love a floof.

Some folks adopt black cats on Halloween for less savory reasons. The shelter we work with will NOT adopt black cats out during the three month window of Sept-Nov because of the amount of monsters using them as animal sacrifices.

….I wish I was joking. Foster or adopt folks!

  4. I grew up with an old black cat. He's 19 and the single sweetest kitty. Never bites or scratches, but he loves to lay with me while I work or talk to friends on my laptop. His name is hatchet and he's just a little baby. He likes being held like one too lol. We got another black cat more recently and because she's young she fights and plays. She's a sweet girl too just like hatchet. I wish people would give them chances

  5. I’ve had two black cats and they have been my favorites ❤ One lived to be 23 and had a beastie that also lived to 23 and he was a very light colored ginger cat almost pink so his name was Momo💯💝

  6. I hate the stigma, my black cat Onyx is the most loving cat I’ve ever had! He is always on my lap & demands me to pick him up for a cuddle every time I get home. Always purring and loving. He’s seriously the sweetest boy I’ve ever met… his OG name was terminator from his foster home lol but I think it was just a movie litter themed name bc he is definitely not a terminator 🖤🥹

  7. My mom adopted two tuxedo cats, one of them was deceased before I was born. The last one was named Rox, I could never know him kitten but he was the sweetest cat I've ever had. His favourite person was obviously my mom, every time she would sit somewhere even just on her desk chair he would look at her with loving eyes and try to sit on her lap. Rox was a very affectionate and cuddly cat, so I was his second favourite person, he would stay in my bedroom for hours and I wouldn't mind, infact I would pet him everytime I would see him. Sadly he's deceased from oldness, he lived for 17 years.

  8. My cat is black and white and she is my best friend….my daughter had two black cats and they were gorgeous, but she lost one to I'll heath but the other one is going strong….

  9. Who are these "people" you are taking about?!?!
You mean "people" in your third world country that is about to become a theocratic dictatorship? Those are not people. Those are cultists who are afraid of anything they don't understand.

  10. I love black cats, my first cat was black and so they have a special place in my heart. My black cat is super vocal and just peaking at her from around a corner makes her go "mmm" and she also makes that sound when she jumps off things and when woken up, super adorable.

  11. Even I have a black cat, and in my culture they are actually considered good. God that silk shiny coat looks gorgeous af in the golden glowy sun. He is just so majestic

  12. As someone who has had black cats, they can be extremely friendly! (I've had 2, my grandma had one. Mine were very sweet, the one my grandma had was rude, but I spent time by her and managed to be able to give her love by brushing her, never was able to physically touch her, but she still deserved love ❤)
Also, I see black cats as a symbol of good luck 🙂 (During trick or treating, I saw a black cat running around, super sweet)

  13. It really doesn't matter what color a cat is, they're all lovable!!! 💯 The superstition is ridiculous!!! When I was young, we lived in the country, about 45 minutes away from town; we was about 10 minutes from town and a black cat ran across the road, so, my stepdad turned around and went back through the country and about an hour and a half later we got to town!!! That was total ridiculousness!!! 💯 It took a whole day to go to town and back home, because of a superstition!!! Me, myself, I love any cat!!! 💖

  14. Sheeze… good thing nobody knows that black cats taste just like chicken lol… for real black cats live longer and are hardier with less vet bills then other cats… and they're just so damn delicious lol

  15. I had six tuxedo cats, but I am now sadly down to just Winston. He was the alpha male. He is just one, big, squish ball of floof. He is so affectionate. I love every cat, no matter the color, or even if they have fur or not! ❤❤❤

  16. I heard that about black cats as a child and couldn't stand the thought, so everytime I got a cat it was black. They are soooo sweet, actually much more affectionately then most cats, let me say it this way. I have never had a black cat that I owned swipe at me. They have swipted at others but only cause they are kinda a person cat.

  17. I SWEAR IF YOU DONT GET ATLEAST ONE OF THOSE CATS I WILL PROB CRY MY HEART OUT

Pls adopt all of them and if that’s not possible adopt at least 1
