This reminds me of the childish responses to the social media posts of a police force telling cyclists to wear high vis with cyclists crying about "it's not MY responsibility to be safe. It all the drivers' fault. WHAA WHAAA!!"
Bunch of hypocrites out there.
That poor cyclist who was hit, and the driver who hit him too. That's why you wear a high vis whilst riding at night and pay attention whilst driving!

the bmw more than likely brake checked the front lorry.. you see it so many times now on the motor ways.. audi drivers are the worst with brake checking especially if you pass them on the right

The bike crash was horrendous and completely unnecessary too, Ware and Hertford are so close together that it would take 20 mins on a bike from Ware train station beside the main road to Hertford at a leisurely pace. I have walked along that viaduct drunk after a night out and it was genuinely one the stupidest and scariest things I've done, you wouldn't catch me dead cycling on it even in the day. No chance anything but a car should be up there. Such a waste of life from a silly drunk mistake
People really need to learn that it doesn’t matter who or where you are if your out in the dark wear bright clothing , reflective clothing and a headtorch . I walk my dogs before 6 am and no matter what I always wear my headtorch and always part turn my head torch if I hear traffic coming up behind me so they get to see I’m there .
Back in 1979/80/81 I used to cycle the A10 Enfield to Hertford section with some regularity…

That cyclist was of course in the wrong, he was drunk. It's sad that he died, but it is also sad that the young girl had to be the one to hit him. It could have been anyone. He should not have been on the road.

I remember driving to University one day. On a country main road heading into the city. The road connected a few villages to the city. Despite this there was not many street lights due to the length of the road. Passed a cyclist on a bend, only realized as I had to swerve around them. They were wearing all black, black bike no lights. Could not see them until I was within a few meters travelling around 30mph.
Crazy thing Is I had a dash cam with ok night vision. The camera never saw them, before, during or after passing.
Cyclists need to realize they are invisible without lights at night

That crash involving the cyclist is ghastly. So many cyclists and pedestrians fail to wear light, reflective clothing. 😢

Microsleeps are nasty when driving. They may just be enough to cause the driver to be unaware traffic is stopped ahead.
