  1. Is there anything Buncombe county can figure out ?
They want names of people in tents as if the public is lying.
Go to Swannanoa exit off I-40 and start asking names. Unreal. Now struggle with debris…how about landfill. No wonder it's still a mess

  2. It took many years for eastern NC to get rid of all the debris from the Hurricane Floyd flooding. Almost a decade in some places. Keep chipping at it, folks. And in the meantime, get used to the sight.

  3. Part of my ancestry is from Buncombe county. I am so sorry this has happened to all of you. I wish my body was in better condition so I could come and help in any way I could. Unfortunately, giving by donation is my only real option. I pray for y'all daily and hope that comfort and blessings may fall upon you.

  4. They need to clean up fast because hurricanes are going to get stronger and there is a chance as the years go on that such hurricanes will happen more frequently.

  5. 4% of debris removal in 2 1/2 months. And the worst part, is that's the 2 1/2 months with MAXIMUM media attention and donations. Not to mention, in most cases, the easiest 4% to get to. "At this pace," Buncombe County will have disgusting debris scattered around for 5 to 6 years. But in reality, it will be 3 or 4 times that long, because the debris will be in harder and harder locations to reach, combined with less and less media coverage and donations. Simply put, Buncombe County for the next couple decades will look like someone sprinkled a landfill and a junkyard from the sky, combined, over the entire county. If you're not grasping that yet, you're not doing the math on this pathetic rate of recovery.

  6. Where was FEMA BEFORE THE HURRICANE?? Why werent they here helping people prepare?? Or letting them know they were in grave danger??Why werent the dams repaired over the last 20 years?? Why were they not releasing water BEFORE the hurricane ?? Why are they more concerned with tourist destinations than they are about the people that live and died here?? This entire system of government has failed miserably!! But taxes are still being paid…

  7. I have a large family in this county. Their homes up in the hills. 3 friends got killed when the trees crashed down on their head while sitting in their homes. Then the damage with so much destruction. I doubt if (though perhaps sincere) the new administration might try to help, with this damage and death will take years. Years, these people. Do not have! The best part how these friends get together yo help one another.

  8. Always talking about tree debris but what about the garbage everywhere? shipping containers slammed up against bridge columns with traffic overhead? I don't even consider the cleanup started minus efforts by small business

  9. I told rhem years ago, better put a backflow preventer,on the closet wasteline,,,oh the ruver will never get that high, see…plumbed slab of building originally, for my cousin,

  10. There is a place on 64 in horse shoe area that was a thrift store that has crap piled everywhere. They were hoarders. Somebody needs to condemn that place and make them remove that crap on the side of the road.
