Seeb Fish Market – We’re starting this Omani seafood tour at the Seeb Fish Market, one of the most vibrant fish market, located just outside the center of Muscat. You’ll find all the fresh catch of the day, and we found amazing king fish, one of the Omani favorites and tuna.

Shrimps Restaurant‎ (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bc5yb9GWgV5tr2ZA6) – After the fish market we headed to a local seafood restaurant. At this spot you can choose all your own seafood and they will cook it fresh, marinated in Omani spices and showered in tangy tamarind.

Al Mandoos Restaurant (https://maps.app.goo.gl/SLSzC2BFfPKUc3Z28) – Next up Mohammed took us to Al Mandoos Restaurant, an amazing place to try Omani food, and specifically some of the lesser known home-style Omani seafood dishes like maleh (salted fish), salted shark, and kingfish shuwa.

Mohammed’s – Next up, we had the privilege to hang out with Mohammed as he cooked his version of paplou – an Omani fish and turmeric soup.

Bab Salum Barbecue (https://maps.app.goo.gl/BZoC4jSpvMW4JwaY8) – It wouldn’t be a complete day in Oman without eating mishkak, but while mutton is common, one of the best skewers of mishkak is squid!

  1. The fish you got is a not a Kingfish. It is a Narrow-barred Spanish Mackerel. Its flavor is very different from Kingfish. It has almost no fishy smell or flavor, in contrast to Kingfish.

  2. I love muscat, Oman we left 2010.
we lived there for about ten years. people are super nice.
King fish also good for Indonesian dish so many Indonesian people lives there beside Indian and phillipino .
the Indian food was very good and cheap that time.
but now cost of living are expensive and specially hotel. but the country so beautiful and beaches are clean.
the we lives there the sea food stall still on the floor not like that but couple years before we left oamn then made nicer
I used buying crabs over there and sardines are so tasty , our helper at home will clean it we deep fry so good.
maybe go back to Muscat again someday.

Mark, thank you for your videos. We love you and your family. Safe travels to you all.

  4. Mark, I’m in shock! With as much as you love chilies, and can handle the heat, I was surprised to see you choke up with the fumes coming from the fried chilies, and garlic! I was starting to think you were invincible, with an iron stomach!

  5. 00:01 I have caught these fish, maybe they are excited to see a foreigner . That's a king mackerel a not very sought after fish, what we call a kingfish has yellow tips to fins and white belly and many times more expensive.
