The Aeolian Islands of Sicily were cut off by bad weather on Friday, and schools were closed due to heavy rain in Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi and Panarea.
Flooding caused by heavy rain hit many parts of Sicily including Taormina, where the Alvcantar river overflowed, and Catania. Trees and rocks were uprooted by strong winds in Caltanissetta. Schools were also closed in parts of Sardinia.
