California firefighters were battling brush fires that were igniting across San Diego County on Tuesday (January 21). Fueled by strong Santa Ana winds and dry conditions, a fast-moving brush fire on broke out on a hillside shortly after noon in Mission Valley, prompting evacuations and road closures. The fire started on the north side of Friars Road, near Fashion Valley mall. Police shut down a section of the road and evacuated nearby buildings as ground crews and helicopters battled the fire, which was spreading uphill toward a condominium complex.
