I am absolutely devastated by this story. Please if someone can't take him contact The Asher House. I know Lee will take him. I would take him but I'm 92 years old and can't walk dogs because I have trouble walking myself. Please somebody take this wonderful animal.
Is there any update on Ben? I've been checking back since I saw the video the other day and I keep hoping and praying that he's found his forever home and that there will be a happy ending finallly to this very sad story. I couldn't adopt him because I live in Eastern Ontario, Canada and I have a cat, but I care about this sweet, beautiful dog.
How about moving him to CA adoption rescue orgs? No, it’ll be too traumatic 😢
God please help him, it broke my heart hearing this! I’m in CA how can I help! I too have three dogs that are rescue, how can I help!
Where is this good boy located?
Any good updates about Ben?
Please update
I live in British Columbia, 60 miles north of the border and I'm trying desperately to adopt Ben. I filled out and submitted the application form and was turned down. The two reasons they gave was because (1): I have to appear in person, which I can't do because I don't have a passport to enter the country. I asked if they would transport Ben and I offered to pay all their travel expenses (round trip). Their second reason was because I don't have a fenced yard. In my application I'd already told them I have an electric fence to keep bears away though and it would serve to keep Ben in the yard. In my application I also informed them I live alone in my log cabin in the bush so there are no other people or pets that Ben may be aggressive towards. There's absolutly no chance of any conflict with anyone or their pets. I also offered to get a tracking device attached to his collar, because they said what if he "wandered" off. Nor was I concerned when they told me he was aggressive, I just informed them that four of my last five dogs were Rottweilers and I kept everyone of them through thick and thin till death do us part (old age and cancer). Even though I'm down and really disappointed I won't trash talk the outfit over their overly cautious mind set, I won't give up yet. I'll try calling and speak with managemet to see if they'll reconsider because I can give the old guy the perfect place to live out his days.
Love your concern but 1 more dog for you temporarily until you find a home I think its better than leaving him there !!!
I’m an American living in Portugal. I would take him in a heartbeat. We would need an awesome dog rescue pilot though.

I received an email from the shelter this evening. They are claiming that the video misrepresents Ben and his issues. Based on their description, Ben has serious reactivity issues towards dogs, cats, other animals, children. They cited his prey drive and aggressive behavior such as biting and “lashing out”. Based on this description- I would consider Ben unadoptable. This is not Ben’s fault but the shelters and I told them so.
I suggested that if they have had Ben in their care for 8 years, and none of his issues have been addressed ( which clearly they haven’t and have likely gotten worse over the years ) – that they consider asking another shelter who has these resources to step in and HELP BEN be the dog that he could be instead of languishing in that prison he is in now. I asked them why he hasn’t been put down if after 8 years – he remains almost unadoptable.
They cited a recent foster family that returned Ben after 5 days. Some dogs take weeks to decompress. Ben is not being served by this shelter. Ben needs more specialized care. I am hoping that they reach out to OHS and ask for them to take him so that he can get the training that he needs. Otherwise, I am afraid that Ben will die in their care because no one cared enough to help him.
That's just cruel, there should be a time limit. You can see he is under weight, his vertebrae is standing out. Surely there has gotta be someone who will love him and give him the time he needs. It's not good enough. Each shelter should have a policy for dogs that have been in care for 200 days. They should be given priority in training and extra effort to get rehomed. I understand the nuances of shelters and funding. Unfortunately, shelters are only as good as the people running the place. All bases need covering, lots of public attention, passionate and energetic staff. Sometimes, staff have been there for years and get just as broken-hearted as the dogs. That's when you must bring in new blood and energy. Savvy, focused people for fund-raising, training, cleaning, publicity, food providers etc. There is so much to be done to really be a great shelter. Then it's finding suitable families, etc, that are great with their pets, people that are willing to do what's needed. Spaying, etc, and closing down backyard breeders is so important. Our laws worldwide need to be far, far more tighter. Education I schools etc. Massive undertaking for one successful happy dog in a home. My heart hears you.
Someone go get him!! Wish he was good with other dogs! I've got 2 rescue Chiweenies…
ohhh I hope for him a nice family, it"s so sad for him, even all persons in shelter are very nice with him… I can"t adopt him because I am from France but my 2 old dogs and me wish a best wife in his family
