  1. 3:44 This is exactly why I never liked velites or any other spear throwing infantry. They can easily screw the retreat like this and get slaughtered. But they could be very useful if this was fixed somehow or if they where bit stronger in hand to hand combat like Iliyrians.

  2. The problem with Vanilla is that no matter what faction I play after 30 – 50 years every campaign becomes the same as I always just attack Italy, North-Africa, Egypt and Greece ASAP and then become OP no matter what Civ I started with.

  3. Playing Rome Total War in 2025 isn’t just about reliving a classic—it’s a profound journey into the interplay of history, strategy, and modern digital craftsmanship. Here are a few layers to consider:

    Timeless Strategic Depth:
At its core, Rome Total War masterfully captures the art of strategy. Despite decades having passed since its original release, its gameplay remains a benchmark for real-time tactical simulation. The decisions you make—ranging from maneuvering legions on sprawling battlefields to managing the political intricacies of ancient Rome—mirror the enduring challenges of leadership and governance. In an era of hyper-realistic graphics and AI, the game’s focus on strategic depth and long-term planning continues to resonate, reminding us that true mastery in strategy is timeless.

    A Bridge Between Eras:
The game’s design is a cultural and technological bridge. On one hand, it immerses you in the rich tapestry of Roman history, with its epic battles, shifting alliances, and the grandeur of empire-building. On the other, modern enhancements—whether through community mods or improved emulation on current hardware—allow for an experience that’s both nostalgically familiar and refreshingly innovative. It’s as if the ancient world and the cutting-edge technology of 2025 have found a common language, one that speaks to our eternal fascination with power, legacy, and the human condition.

    Community and Continuous Evolution:
Rome Total War’s survival over the years is a testament to its vibrant community. Gamers, modders, and historians alike have continually expanded on its foundation, creating a living, breathing ecosystem that adapts with the times. In 2025, this community-driven evolution ensures that the game remains dynamic—a canvas where classic strategy meets modern experimentation.

    Philosophical Resonance:
On a deeper level, engaging with Rome Total War in today’s context invites reflection on the cyclical nature of history. The rise and fall of empires, the relentless pursuit of power, and the intricate dance of diplomacy and war are not relics of the past; they are timeless narratives that continue to shape our world. By commanding virtual legions, you’re not just playing a game—you’re participating in a dialogue about human ambition, resilience, and the perpetual quest for order amidst chaos.

In essence, the enduring allure of Rome Total War lies in its ability to offer a multifaceted experience—one that challenges the mind, honors history, and continues to evolve with the times. It’s a reminder that some classics never fade; they simply reveal deeper layers of insight as technology and perspective advance.

  4. Wait, you were 6 in 2004, which makes you around 27 now?
I did not expect that… the jesus look makes you seem 33

Also, you oculd unloc the factions by editing a text file back then 😉

  5. Given how vastly better you are than me at EU4, watching you muddle through Rome is… satisfying. Not in a 'ha ha you bad' way, but in a 'I have learned this long ago and I still understand' way.

I'm also fairly sure that skirmish mode used to work a lot better. Certainly I didn't have huge issues with it the way I do with the modern games, but when it comes to navigating settlements then all bets are off.

  6. "you have to defeat the faction to play as the faction"
me who just accessed the game code and drag and dropped the factions into the unlocked section: "what did you say?"
i was like 12 when i did that

  7. I tried playing this game but my GPU and CPU temps go waaay up (75c+). Yet when I play Rome 2 it sits comfortably at 55-60c. Never figured out why 🤔

  8. Medium difficulty!! I understand for campaign so it isn't 1v the world (but as rome it doesn't matter) but the battel difficulty you should do hard because of how OP Rome is.

  9. When your skirmish breaks like that, and runs into the enemy, turn it off to gain back control and manually run away.

They also didn't run cause I think you clicked just before their running mechanic kicks in (It's very delayed in this game)
