A jet from the US state of Kansas, carrying around 60 passengers, crashed into Washington’s Potomac River after colliding mid-air with a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport today. Eighteen bodies were pulled out of the river, reports claim. Rescue ops are underway while all flights at the airport have been grounded.
A video of the crash, which quickly went viral on social media, captured the moment the passenger jet collided with the military helicopter near the airport. US officials said that the collision occurred at approximately 9 PM local time (0200 GMT) Wednesday.

Aircraft was on final heading to land at Washington Airport and had air traffic control authorization to be there. Helicopter was the one that crashed into the plane. Why was the helicopter in the designated landing area of the airport, flying towards multiple aircraft that were on the final landing pattern?

Who was on the plane is my first question.
Serious fault on parts of air traffic controller and Black Hawk pilot. The airplane was descending and was seconds from touchdown. ATC should have asked the heli to ascend. A helicopter is far more agile and can instantaneously alter course. A small error or misjudgement or oversight caused an irreparable loss. God give strength to the affected families…🙁
