French skier Valentin Giraud-Moine has a shocking fall during a downhill race at the German ski resort of Garmisch Partenkirchen on Friday, January 27, 2017. His team later confirmed he had fractured both legs.

Giraud-Moine wasn’t the only one to fall. Six other skiers, including the American Steve Nyman and Canada’s Erik Guay also crashed. Despite flipping, Guay was somehow able to avoid serious injury.

  1. I like skiing but there’s no way I would shove out of the start gate on one of these pro’s race courses. I’d end up like this guy by turn 3? Maybe 2? Or 1? On Streif turn 1.

  2. yeah, I think he had a broken bone because his leg was flopping like a noodle for sure, and he can see it’s not been straight. Not only that I don’t know how we got into that accident. It was on a flat part I’m thinking it was a mechanical failure from a binding malfunction. So I think the binding gave out on him.

  3. Awful to see that boot twisted through 180 degrees, and of course the leg and knee within. I cannot imagine the agony or the shock. I've skiied but have never been able to imagine that level of commitment. My respect!
