6. Always had dogs growing up but never a golden. As an adult we had dogs before we had kids so my 4 grew up with dogs. I fell in love with goldens and when my 3 child was 5 I had the opportunity to adopt a golden puppy from the local shelter. I've loved all my dogs but Gage was so special and was the best dog for my kids growing up. He loved everyone but saved my kids from being attacked by a very aggresive dog that had escaped from its fenced yard he took that bigger dog down and chased it off. He also saved my youngest son who had gotten stuck in barbed wire fencing after dark in the snow. He kept pulling my husbands pants till he actually followed him straight to my son. When my daughter started staying at friends houses over night he'd just show up there. He was welcomed to stay at most of her friends houses. We lost him to severe allergies and overwhelming contact dermatitis after 10 years. My kids are grown now and all have multiple dogs and cats. I'm 61 now and a grandma with 6 cats and 7 dogs who are my constant and loving companions. All rescues 4 purebreds so if you decide on a breed you want just look at your local shelters and you will most likely find what you want. Goldens are the best especially with children.

    Looking at you like a long lost family member, slightly afraid of all the tools, but fine with them once he realizes they are no threat to him.
