Philadelphia police cleared the street of fans after a fire was started during celebrations following the Eagles Super Bowl win in New Orleans.
The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs and soon after fans poured into Philadelphia’s downtoen area to celebrate their second title.
Officers said the fire started a little after 1am local time (0600GMT) Monday (February 10) morning when fans began setting towels and sheets ablaze.
No injuries were reported and police have not said if any arrests were made related to the fire.
The Kansas City Chiefs came to Super Bowl LIX looking to make history but left with their tails between their legs after a seismic demolition at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.
A scarcely believable sequence of events unfolded at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday night as an unstoppable Eagles defense reduced the great Patrick Mahomes to a mere shadow of himself.
“Defense wins championships,” Jalen Hurts said, recalling the old NFL adage. The Eagles quarterback was named Super Bowl MVP but even he knew who was most responsible for this crushing victory, which served as the coldest possible revenge for their agonising defeat by the Chiefs two years ago.
