Arctic Sinkholes I Full Documentary I NOVA I PBS

Spread The Viralist

In the Arctic, enormous releases of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, threaten the climate.

Colossal explosions shake a remote corner of the Siberian tundra, leaving behind massive sinkholes. In Alaska, a huge lake erupts with bubbles of inflammable gas. Scientists are discovering that these mystifying phenomena add up to a ticking time bomb, as long-frozen permafrost melts and releases vast amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. What are the implications of these dramatic developments in the Arctic? Scientists and local communities alike are struggling to grasp the scale of the methane threat and what it means for our climate future.

  1. We are like kindergarten kids trying to come up with models to show what our world is like.

Then, every time our models don't fortell what we see, we freak out.

All our models are wrong because we have only one percent of the knowledge we need, and our models must be destroyed because we know next to nothing about our world.

  2. UNITED NATIONS SCIENCE (IS COMPROMISING METHANE GAS & HABITATION IN SIBERIA A GLOBAL INITIATIVE WORTHY OF TAKING IT ON) IE ANY SUBSTANCE THAT HAS PROPERTIES OF EXPLOSIVE (METHANE IS KNOWN TO HAVE THE GREGARIOUS PROPERTIES OF BUILDING UP BY ITSELF AND (VIA PRESSURE WITH (OXYGEN AND HYDROGEN) IE <FULE SOURCE AIR> IS AS SUCH WILL ANS HAS HAPPENED…THE QUESTION NOW IS WHO IS WILLING TO TAKE IT ON??? AND HOW?? DONT LET THE SCALES TIP US OVER AS THE STRAW ON THE CAMEL IS MORE THAN A WARNING OF FEELINGS BUT A NEED FOR HUMAN REACTION TO PRESERVE OURSELVES<<<>>><<<

  3. We were warned about the methane release a couple of decades ago. There’s enough methane, trapped under the permafrost to totally change the atmosphere of the planet and that’s just in the permafrost up north, now we need to look at Siberia as well

  4. dont worry , humans cannot change the planet that much, nothing we do cannot be undone once we finally destroy ourselves, after 10 million years even our radioactive waste, plastic and filth will all be gone, we are so insignificant and we last such a short time, compared to time itself that nothing bad we do will hurt the planet, within a few thousand years the earth will be healed, old species of animals will die out, new ones will show up, just like before humans showed up, which was the worst day for planet earth, we are a cancer, we show up and consume every possible resource until it's stripped bare, and we move on to the next area, but we cant kill the earth because it lasts so much longer then us, once we are finally dead and gone, the earth will heal and be new again, mountains will fall, new ones will rise up, oceans will rise and fall, ice ages will come and go all without us stupid humans around to screw it up. we are dreadful beings. selfish, greedy and stupid, we literally watch ourself consume everything and wont change it, we actually think we are doing so good and we are so very smart. hah

  5. I'm thinking it is happening because of the land it used to be a frozen tundra and methane can't move through its frozen ceiling, but it can be strong enough to move the soil if said soil isn't frozen anymore…

  6. These Methane sinkholes, are our gifts from Greedy Oligarchs, continuing to Only care about their Greed, whilst they easily get us to continuously fight amongst ourselves, versus see Oligarch greed is a becoming more and more a one way Doom ticket.

  7. Blames man for global warming the permafrost then shows that the heat is coming from below…continues to push the global warming blame game….

  8. The hell is located below earth crust and seas. It’s rehearsing its purpose.
Oh you don’t want to go there.. Jesus Christ made a way to scape, repent serve God. His promise: the earth will be renewed for his children to live in peace young forever

  9. This documentary kind of sucks, they just keep cutting off these experts. It's edited to make it seem like we never tried to predict what climate change does to permafrost. There was a whole section in my early 2000's earth science class that described methane possibly exploding like this in ancient warming events.
