Today we’re going on an ultimate Egyptian street food tour in Alexandria, on the Mediterranean Coast of Egypt! This is the second largest city in Egypt, and it has a completely different feel from Cairo with a different food scene. So our mission is to eat some of the best local Egyptian food today in Alexandria!

It’s also special because Abanoub, who has been taking me around Egypt – this is his hometown, and so we are in very good hands with an Alexandrian local!

Am Zaghloul (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bot9zysZVrzbKkBPA) – You can’t resist eating fuul and falafel for breakfast in Egypt everyday, it’s too good.! And this favorite spot in Alexandria is extremely popular for their trays of Egyptian breakfast. Total price – 415 EGP ($8.20)

Awlad Abdo (https://maps.app.goo.gl/K4FUiTrtGocJTnnr9) – Next up, Abanoub took me to his favorite Egyptian sandwich stall, that specializes in these mini sandwiches that have tons of flavor – from Egyptian soguk to cheese and seafood, there are so many combinations, and very tasty. Price for everything – 180 EGP ($3.56)

Malek el Semman (https://maps.app.goo.gl/A6Wjv7ta1GsEi57S6) – This legendary restaurant is known for their grilled quails. The quails are marinated in a paste of seasoning, then grilled over hot fire. They are extremely tasty, even more than expected. Price – 745 EGP ($14.72)

El Kalaa (https://maps.app.goo.gl/sddAmGoxb9Rqte5E9) – After walking around the Mediterranean Coast in Alexandria we are continuing with this Egyptian street food tour to eat at a few spots that are extremely popular. El Kayla specializes in Egyptian style feteer, a thin flaky dough that’s wrapped up with tons of fillings – from sausage and soguk to cheese, and sweet versions, then baked until crispy. It was phenomenal. Price – 415 EGP ($8.20)

Al Kayyal Butchery (https://maps.app.goo.gl/zkSDuunzZn477WzE7) – We had hawawshi in Cairo, but in Alexandria they do things a little differently. This local hawawshi is intense with so many people and so many things going on. We got the soguk and cheese stuffed hawawshi, baked to crispy perfection. Price – 280 EGP ($5.53)

Balbaa (https://maps.app.goo.gl/M9yEhho83VBN7jt18) – One of the most legendary food institutions in Alexandria, this is one of those restaurants you have to go to to say you’ve been to Alexandria. Their chicken marinated in onions and grilled is fantastic, and their lamb chops are among the best you’ll ever have. 986

El Falah (https://maps.app.goo.gl/J8SNESB1GY87kUVBA) – When Egyptians think about Alexandria food, one of the things everyone thinks about is liver sandwich, and this place is legendary. Price – 52 EGP ($1.03) for 4 sandwiches
