What's so interesting to me is that growing up, whenever I'd see footage of a waterspout, no one would ever make any sort of comment about the event nor did the people in the videos ever seem very concerned about them, even if they were nearby. I realize they are comparatively less dangerous in the ocean since they aren't flinging debris, but they can still be very powerful and dangerous, especially if they hit land. I'm glad to hear more people taking them seriously now.
