Orangutan Outreach has been partners with International Animal Rescue (IAR) since 2009. The orangutans of West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) now have a safe haven at IAR’s Orangutan Rescue Center in Ketapang. There, they are cared for and rehabilitated by trained professionals until the day comes when they can be released into a safe forest or island sanctuary.
Ideally, wild orangutans remain wild– living their lives in their forest home. Unfortunately this is becoming nearly impossible as ruthless palm oil companies destroy their pristine rainforest home. When this happens, the IAR rescue team is sometimes notified of orangutans who are trapped in patches of forest that are being destroyed. When this happens the IAR team gathers their gear and goes out and gets them. Quite often, rather than bring the wild orangutans back to the center, the best thing is to simply take them to a safe forest– one that the palm oil industry will not touch.

oh what a pity that they couldnt leave the mother in a cage to lure the baby out. It made me almost cry knowing the baby got left behind
Shame on their government to keep doing what they’re doing, knowing and seeing how it’s effecting the wildlife. These poor orangutang’s have no where to hide. And they’ll never be able to raise their family’s, where they were raised. Very sad.

Big, beautiful, brown eyes filled with terror, that made me cry. You can see how truly terrified they are. It makes me sick to see this.
I have taught my children that it's better to spend a few extra dollars on items we use, then to support an industry responsible for this devastation. My youngest child doesn't quite understand why we have allowed this to happen, and the day she does will break my heart all over again. I'm sure they ask themselves, "what did we do wrong to make them do this to us?" It's heartbreaking to see all of the damage we have done to their homes and food sources. It's sad that our answer to man's greed is to destroy their homes. 😢🇨🇦

The GOVT of Indonesia is so corrupt the let the palm oil executive's run the show over there otherwise I'm sure they wouldn't let the rainforest be the way it looks. I feel so bad for the Orangutans!

These guys seem to be very professional and a good shot ! In the behind every time! They seem to be very gentle with them also it really sucks to see the forest being destroyed they will regret it one day!
Absolutely rips your heart out watching the second orang still in fight or flight mode after she was caught in the wrappings and then the mother of them all, the mother that was so skinny and her baby that clung on for everything it had.
Man has no order to his life yet he persists to destroy everything in his path all for monetary gain which is just a dream.
There is so much more than money in life. No wonder why man cannot evolve.

We need to see these things but it heartbreaking. Dead Earth. What other animals and birds are being lost with this devastation? I never knowingly buy food products with palm oil.
