Our planet’s diverse, thriving ecosystems may seem like permanent fixtures, but they’re actually vulnerable to collapse. Jungles can become deserts, and reefs can become lifeless rocks. What makes one ecosystem strong and another weak in the face of change? Kim Preshoff details why the answer, to a large extent, is biodiversity.

  1. This video is very informative and entertaining to watch. I learned from this video that our ecosystems are vulnerable to collapse. Organisms need other organisms to live, organisms in biodiversity depend on each other or the species are interconnected that's why when one is removed it can have bad effects on the other organisms. But that's not true in every case, if biodiversity is rich and healthy, that one species gap won't cause it to unravel, the biodiversity will stay resilient and it can recover from change. Biodiversity can be stronger if there are plenty of organisms in it. For us to avoid damaging biodiversity, we should clean and protect our biodiversity. Biodiversity plays a huge role in human survival because it supplies our needs and keeps the planet working and helps the planet flow its necessities to distribute in the ecosystem for the life forms living on it. Humans do not and cannot live in isolation from this web. This video helped me realize that everything or everyone has their purpose. We cannot survive on our own. We still need to depend on other people just like in biodiversity, organisms depend on each other to survive. Artificial selection is the identification by humans of desirable traits in plants and animals, and the steps taken to enhance and perpetuate those traits in future generations. Artificial selection works the same way as natural selection, except that with natural selection it is nature, not human interference, that makes these decisions.

  2. It's too bad we in the US and in other places have taught this idea of instant gratification, which has blinded us to the consequences of ecosystem collapse.

  4. The variety of life is referred to as biodiversity.

On the planet Earth, there are estimated to be 8.7 million species.

And, as we've seen in this film, biodiversity is critical for people.

The loss of a single significant species can hurt May levels, affecting everything from other animal species to plants to the physical environment.

Agriculture, forestry, fishing, urbanization, and industrialization have all damaged habitats.

Unsurprisingly, habitat loss has had a significant impact on the species' population.

Habitat fragmentation has also resulted in the division of populations into smaller subunits, which have been unable to adapt and survive when faced with adversity.

  5. Thank you for this information about biodiversity , it is very helpful for me because i understand the importance of biodiversity.

Biodiversity is the biological variety and variability of life on Earth. Biodiversity is a measure of variation at the genetic, species, and ecosystem level.

The biodiversity is important for us humans.

This process is some nature involved through adoption.it shows that might be better if just save the variant

And anyways thank you for this lesson because we really need to know about this lesson , thank you.

  6. Thank you for all the information it's really helpful also for us students yes it's true biodiversity is important it's help us and it's important for all specie's to survive

  7. No jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja

  8. I'm 27 and I'm still learning. Students, keep learning. Ask the biggest f***ing questions you can think of. Challenge yourselves, each other, your teachers.

We need to come together. We should be learning about precious resources and how to ensure that they continue to exist.

The economy means nothing if the environment isn't being considered. Environment is the real value, economy is the illusion that has always been against nature.

Wanting constant acceleration of wealth in numerical value without considering where the vast majority of wealth is actually coming from. Not the economy or the pyramid, but the effervescent environment which surrounds and constitutes possibility.

  9. Diversity, a term described to explain variation within the growth of species.Biodiversity is the collection of flora and fauna of a place. Different plants, animals, marine life, microorganisms, insects, habitats, ecosystem etc.that makes our planet so unique and so fascinating.
