Do you believe accidents are outside the providence of God? Pastor Lutzer discusses the mystery of the will of God in light of natural disasters—gleaning wisdom from the book of Job. In today’s episode, Pastor shares the testimony of a modern-day “Job”—a true story of a Christian couple thrown into unspeakable grief and how they offered up praise to God through it all. Credits to my lecturer, Pastor Dr Tan Soon Yong: Was Job’s Wife a Foolish Woman? Vv.9-10
Considerations:
Would Job, a wise man, marry a foolish woman? Would he abandon his wife to folly?
Did Job call his wife a ‘foolish woman’?
What were the circumstances and conditions under which Job’s wife spoke?
Did Job consider his wife as an opponent or partner in this trial?
Would Job’s wife wish for widowhood?
Did God rebuke Job’s wife?
What did she mean?
Why do you hold fast to your integrity in the face of such suffering? Just “curse” God and die! Barak
You are one to hold fast your integrity.
But either God is right, or you are right – obviously, God is right. So, “bless” God, and die for being wrong.
If you keep saying you are right, you must say God is wrong. Then you will “curse” God and die.
Did all their kids die? Job didn't curse God but he did tell God how he felt! He told God he wished he was never born! He did tell God how he felt. God already knew this. God wants us to be honest with our emotions, both positive and negative.
